Every single one of those quarterbacks played within an offensive philosophy that kept them from excelling. Myles doesn’t.

Yes. Which makes Brennan’s troubles all the more worrisome.

On 46 passing attempts. Brennan dropped back to throw over 50 times.

345 yards on 46 attempts is 7.5 yards/att. Only 3 LSU QBs in the last 10 years averaged less than 7.5 yards/att.- Jefferson in 2010, Mettenberger in 2012, and Jennings in 2014.

It’s only one game, but the defenses are not getting any easier. State had a couple of walkons in the secondary. Hopefully we see some improvement this week.

He had a lot of passing yards because our offense is a pass focused offense. The key stat is 3rd down conversion %. For that matter, any conversion %. We had numerous 3 and outs. That has to improve. He missed many open receivers and held the ball way too long. He cannot run, so he has to move up within the pocket.

The main question that needs to be asked is can he improve enough to win a championship in the next 2 seasons ?

How many previous LSU offenses gave a QB this many throwing options?

Not an apples to apples comparison.

Cotton - you clearly didn't watch the game. Or if you did, you don't know much about football.

Brennan played poorly, from the start. Did he have some good throws - yes. But not consistently, not even close.

This offense, unlike Les' Stone Age offenses, will put up yards. That's why you can't just look at a stat line in a vacuum. That's lazy. You have to actually watch what's happening.

This is stupid. This isn’t about the shitty defense.
As bad as the defense was, and it was historically bad, LSU still would have won if Brennan had been better.

If Brennan had been on the 2011 or 2017, 2018 teams with the kind of performance he put up on Saturday we have a couple more ships. To put Saturday's loss on Brennan is so fricking retarded it surprises me if you frickers can tie your shoes

If a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his arse when he hopped. The reality is Brennan wasn't the starting QB for those teams and I think (or at least would hope) that EVERYONE realizes the offensive approach/philosophy prior to 2019 if FAR different to that of 2020. Raw numbers are raw numbers, but CONTEXT matters. There is simply no logical comparison between 2020 and pre-2019.

The reality is this. Outside of one drive in LSU's seven first half possession Brennan did not play well. LSU only converted one 3rd down...the TD to Gilbert which was essentially just a Hail Mary. 6 of the 7 first half possessions were 5 plays or less. 5 ended in punts.

He came out to start the 2nd half and played MUCH better. That second half play probably would have been just enough to win if the defense didn't totally collapse. But even with the collapse, the defense did create two back to back TO's in MSU territory and LSU wasn't able to fully take advantage. Up only 3, MSU fumbled on their 25 yard line. In turn, LSU was only able to gain 1 yard and had to settle for a FG.

There was no single guy who lost the game. Did Brennan look great? No. Did he play "horribly"? No.

Holy shite are y’all brain dead? I put it in all caps for fricks sake and y’all still don’t comprehend. So I’ll do it again.

BRENNAN DID NOT PLAY A GREAT GAME and he still put up 350 yards and 3 tds. How can you not look at that optimistically? How can you not see that and think “damn if he just improves a little each week he’s going to be damn near unstoppable”

maybe not most but there are plenty that have written him off after his first start. I'm just amazed by how many posters feel a guy should look like a polished qb after his first start...and being a junior has nothing to do with it bc you can also say it's been 4 years since he has had any major PT

You need to calm down, man. You are gonna give yourself a heart attack, and we’re only one game in. Pace yourself.

I can see that and not think what you do because I am a different human being than you, and we can have differing opinions. No big deal. Personally, I would be more encouraged if he played well, but only threw for 150 yards and 1 TD. The means are more important to me. Trust the process/performance and the ends will take care of themselves.

That’s fine but I have several people quoting me using the argument “But Brennan didn’t play good”

No shite. I obviously know that considering I said that very thing in the post that theyre quoting.

There is disagreeing and then there’s being too dumb to understand what you’re disagreeing with. I’ve seen a lot of the latter.

He didn’t and we don’t so it’s not relevant.

Hell, you might as well say “if LSU never lost a game, they’d win every championship”.

I’m NOT putting the loss in Brennan. I am on record saying the defense lost this game.

But that doesn’t mean that Brennan played well.

This was a total team loss.

He also looked rattled at times and seemed very timid in the pocket.... his confidence level through the entire game was very low... he also threw two bad int’s.... stats aren’t everything.... but I blame all this on coaching.... the whole team played like they were gonna go in there and just smoke MSU.

Dropped a dime into Terrace Marshall in the end zone. Is the first one to come to mind.

I personally think the TD pass to Gilbert was great but people will just shout about how he got lucky so I’ll let that one go.

He did. Especially in the first half. Seemed to calm down and play better in the second half.

No he didn’t. Neither of those were “bad” interceptions. He got his arm hit on one and the other was a Hail Mary to end the game.

That TS to Marshall was clearly his best pass of the game.....again it’s not just about stats with him. It’s what I said in my above post. Go read it.
