Clearly, the guy who completed 68% of his passes with 28 TDs and 8 INTs (Mauck had 14, Flynn had 11) is your last choice, despite being the most efficient passer in college football during 2006.
The "most efficient passer in college football during 2006" was Colt Brennan. Number two was John Beck. Russell was third. Were Colt Brennan or John Beck better than any other LSU player this decade?
For all his considerable talent, JaMarcus Russell made 2-3 god-awful, "what the hell is he THINKING?" throws a game. I'm thankful for what he accomplished at LSU, but his serious mistakes hurt the team too much for me to call him the best player.
I believe that Glenn Dorsey was a better defensive tackle than JaMarcus Russell was a quarterback, and that Josh Reed was a better wide receiver than Russell was a QB. If people want to argue that Chad Lavalais was a better DT than Dorsey, that's fine. There's also a slew of linemen I'd put ahead of JR.
In terms of productivity, Josh Reed is hard to beat, though I'd probably put Michael Clayton over Reed. Clayton did everything--and did it well--but sell popcorn at halftime, and I'd believe you if you said he actually did.

It's amazing how in the minds of some LSU fans that the other qbs who turned the ball over more didn't do this.

Very true. None of them should be considered best player of the decade, either.

Josh Reed is the correct answer

Did I need to specify that guys who play in non BCS conferences don't necessarily qualify? We saw how awesome and efficient Brennan was against Georgia. He was a product of great WRs, a great system, and bad competition.

So how many "what the hell is he THINKING?" throws did Flynn and Mauck make? JR's 8 INTs and high completion percentage don't really side with you.

dorsey, wilkerson.
others are very close, but others around the country would agree with these 2

The more I think about it, the more it's Reed.

If you're going to be making statements of fact, then yes.

Many, which is why I don't put them in consideration for the honor either.

No, but watching him play does. Bad decisions are not always reflected in statistics.

By default. Hester was a great player, but he got a lot of carries those two years that should have gone to other backs.
what a stupid fricking statement.

Sorry I hurt your feelings Jacob. Keiland should have gotten more carries in 2006, and though you were rightfully the starter in 2007, Chuck and Keiland should have gotten some of your carries. Good luck in the playoffs!
1. Reed
2. Lavalais
3. Dorsey
4. Jamarcus
5. Peterson
