Did I need to specify that guys who play in non BCS conferences don't necessarily qualify?

If you're going to be making statements of fact, then yes.

quote:

So how many "what the hell is he THINKING?" throws did Flynn and Mauck make?

Many, which is why I don't put them in consideration for the honor either.

JR's 8 INTs and high completion percentage don't really side with you.

No, but watching him play does. Bad decisions are not always reflected in statistics.

It's amazing how in the minds of some LSU fans that the other qbs who turned the ball over more didn't do this.

Very true. None of them should be considered best player of the decade, either.
quote:

Clearly, the guy who completed 68% of his passes with 28 TDs and 8 INTs (Mauck had 14, Flynn had 11) is your last choice, despite being the most efficient passer in college football during 2006.

The "most efficient passer in college football during 2006" was Colt Brennan. Number two was John Beck. Russell was third. Were Colt Brennan or John Beck better than any other LSU player this decade?

For all his considerable talent, JaMarcus Russell made 2-3 god-awful, "what the hell is he THINKING?" throws a game. I'm thankful for what he accomplished at LSU, but his serious mistakes hurt the team too much for me to call him the best player.

I believe that Glenn Dorsey was a better defensive tackle than JaMarcus Russell was a quarterback, and that Josh Reed was a better wide receiver than Russell was a QB. If people want to argue that Chad Lavalais was a better DT than Dorsey, that's fine. There's also a slew of linemen I'd put ahead of JR.

In terms of productivity, Josh Reed is hard to beat, though I'd probably put Michael Clayton over Reed. Clayton did everything--and did it well--but sell popcorn at halftime, and I'd believe you if you said he actually did.
The biggest problems I can see with playing man to man are named Jai Eugene and Chris Hawkins. If they can do it, then I'm all for it. I just don't think they can right now.
From what I've seen in the past, his rankings are skewed towards players from the Southeast and Texas. His list will look generally the same as the other services when it comes to who is named, but the order is often drastically different. I don't check his site more than once or twice a year, if that.

Ask him about Lache S.....

Would Porter be allowed to talk about specific recruits by name?

Northwestern had the #1 I-AA recruiting class this year, apparently.

I heard about this. I've been wondering where on the Rivals site one could find I-AA recruiting coverage, if at all possible.

How come Sam isn't a 5 star being the #2 ranked DE? That doesn't add up.

The services that use stars don't have him ranked as the #2 DE. He's at #6 or #7, depending.

what number is faulk?? is he holding it down?

If you mean Chris Faulk, he played in the AA game yesterday.

Downs is playing Right tackle on O to. I guess I missed that earlier.

There are two players on the Black team with #77. Downs is one, OL Peter White is the other.

So you are telling theres a chance?

I have no idea whether there's a chance or not. He did sound like he was leaving the door open for LSU if he didn't really like the other two, but I think that's doubtful.

I was just trying to point out that McFarland may be basing his decision on something other than the defense playing poorly this year.

Something like having to compete with Woods, Aubrey, Nevis, RJF, Edwards, Hagans, Davenport, and possibly Alexander (if he comes back) and Downs (if he plays defense). I certainly think he could compete if he wanted to, but that's up to him.

this is obviously a result of the D playing poorly

Possibly

quote:

Uncommitted ESPNU 150 defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland told affiliate Web site OUInsider.com, "As of right now, I am Oklahoma and Texas."

He explained, "Well, basically, it is getting to the point where it is becoming so hectic that I am thinking I have got to make a choice. I even talked to (LSU commit) Russell (Shepard) a little bit and he mentioned that some of the other recruits found LSU as a great place, but I told him I had to pick a school that was best for me. I feel that they are stacked at my position to where I won't get some playing time, so I kind of look at these other two (OU, UT) based on that. But if I can't get anything out of it, maybe I will go back to my third choice."

Or not
