Hard to say. 2005 had Glenn Dorsey, Kyle Williams, Tyson Jackson, RJF, and Melvin Oliver. That's pretty stout. 2 1st round picks and a 2 time Pro-Bowler.

I think we will miss Brockers, but I still think we will be fine. I think we had the best DL in LSU history in the 70's!

I think Claude Wroten started at DT along with Kyle Williams in '05.

Y'all are correct about how talented the '05 & '06 DL's were.

Claude Wroten didn't just start in 05, he made some All American teams and was consensus All SEC. having Wroten, Williams and Dorsey as DTs in 05 (and to an extent 04) was damn near unfair. the DEs left something to be desired at times though.

Yeah, DE is the reason I think this line is better Then those. I think we have comparable talent at the DT, but the Defensive Ends push this unit over all the ones in the past.

a few of these comments reek of the preseason hype the 08 DL got, because we were losing Dorsey but RJF was potentially better. boy did that not turn out how some ppl expected.

RJF got most of that hype because of the Title game though. Freak pretty much dominated every play he was in on as a true freshman last year. Almost no one does that at any school. Hard for me to believe he won't make a massive jump this year.

I was at a bar in St. Augustine a couple weeks ago and these two old Florida fans were yapping about how LSU wouldn't win the west because we "lost too much on defense" (he mentioned the D line specifically).
Took all I had not to be "that guy" and butt into their conversation.

Your a better man then me. With a few drinks in me, there is no way I could have kept quiet. Florida fans are pretty horrible in their own environment though. The closest I've came to a fight in the last 15 years or so was in a bar down here with some Florida fans.

Mingo and Montgomery will be top 10 picks. (Easily could be top 5 picks)

Logan is projected to go late in the 1st

Anthony Johnson has the talent to be a top 10 pick

Ferguson and Jordan Allen are NFL talents also

Rasco is probably a high pick and I believe Downs will probably be a late round pick.

It has the potential to be fantastic if Johnson/Ferguson/Downs can adequately replace Brockers, which they have the talent to do.

Speaking of DTs, anyone have any idea how M. Johnson and Q. Thomas are developing? They seem to never get mentioned but at least one of them needs to step up in the next year or two in order to keep the amazing depth on the DLine that we've enjoyed the last few years.

I feel the starting D-line in 03 was better spears, lavalais, hill, kyle williams;however, last years and this years depth is the best.

Pretty hard to beat 2003's line with Chad Lavalais, Kyle Williams, Marcus Spears, and Marquise Hill.

I mean we are basically losing a lottery pick in Brockers and replacing him with a guy who could legitimately be a better player then he was.

They are different kinds of DTs. Brockers was a gap clogger, Johnson is a penetrater.

Very much agreed. Glad you mentioned Rasco and Edwards. Sam/Mingo better not look over their shoulder.

Mingo was not the starter last year and will not start this year. He will continue to come in on pass rushing downs.

Edwards or Rasco will start, and play the role Ken Adams played last year.

I was just saying I don't think he will be a lottery pick. I was thinking maybe late first round or second round type pick.

If Bennie Logan is a lottery pick, some NBA GM is going to lose his job.
