What's crazy is if Hicks wouldn't have been in all that trouble he probably would have started over Brockers. Meaning Brockers would still be a Tiger.

What's crazy is that I heard the #1 offense was able to basically run the ball at will against the #1 defense all spring. So, if our defensive line is that good, how good is our offensive line this year?

Do you think this year's will top 03's?
I think they can. With two DEs that are potential top ten overall picks and Logan may be a first rounder too (with a good year) they, no doubt, have the potential to be. You could argue last years line may have been better than 03. Idk the stats but im pretty sure 03 put up some stupid numbers that im not sure we topped last year but we also had better linebackers in 03 sooo its debatable. Both were nasty. I cant wait for football!!!!

By your logic you are saying we have the best D-Line in LSU history this year because of a lot of guys that were on last years team playing this year..
By that logic wouldn't last years D-Line be the Best LSU D-Line ever?
Mingo and Montgomery still there.
Freak and Rasco still played.
Logan still there.
And 1st Round Draft Pick Michael Brockers was in the line up.
If you are only basing the best ever by those 3 guys(Mingo, Montgomery, Freak) then last years D-Line is better than this years D-Line.
Unless we bring someone in this year that potentially is better than Brockers that wasn't on the D-Line last year.

Not necessarily. If Mingo, Montgomery, and Logan improve from last year, it can more than make up for the loss of Brockers.
Mingo, Montgomery, Logan, Brockers < Mingo +1, Montgomery +1, Logan +1, Freak +1

I don't know 03 was pretty solid with
kyle williams, chad lavalais, marcus spears, marquis hill, pittman, melvin oliver, and collins.
secondary was pretty scary also with
webster, travis daniels, gay, prude, steltz, landry, zenon, jessie daniels, francis, and hunt.
Lb's were
peterson, alexander, and cooper.
Overall pretty solid Defense but 2012 is still gonna be damn good

Man I hope this club starts out on fire like 2011. Especially since 2013 (particularly if Zach leaves) might be a struggle. Not a 7-5 struggle but a 'not ATL favorite' struggle.

I have a feeling theyre ready after 1/5, the question is, will the SEC be ready?

I think they'll be ready but I don't think any club, except Tide, can really do anything about it.

Right now, I vote for '03. This year will certainly be better than last year because of the maturing DE's. We will not have anyone as good as Brockers, though.
Just for fun I'll throw out a DLine from the 80's that was not deep but had similar front line talent: Leonard Marshall (pro bowler with the Giants), Bill Elko (Chargers), and Ramsey Dardar (one year with Cardinals). they could trot out Greg Bowser as a decent backup nose guard, but there was no one else on the bench. It was an elite first string, though.

I think Freak has a great shot at being just as good this upcoming season, and in the long run will be a higher draft pick.

Freak has zero shot this year of being as good as Brockers was last year. None. He's not even starting, I don't believe. Not that that really matters, but I dont think he'll be on the field enough to be as disruptive as Brockers. I think you, and a lot of other folks, are undervaluing how good he was.
That said, with the improvement of all our guys coming back, this line could very well be better than last year's.

I don't think people know how impactful Jurmaria Rasco will be this year. He's right on the heels of Sam and KeKe when it comes to pass rushing talent. I can see him getting 6 or 7 sacks this year with plenty of hurries.
We also heard that Ego has really picked up his play this spring. So much so, that he is actually in competition with Freak for the starting spot opposite Logan. That can only be a good thing.
One other name that people are forgetting in this thread: Lavar Edwards. When Sam Montgomery got hurt in 2010, he stepped in admirably and we still had a dominant pass rush. He's also stout against the run.
Deep and talented as hell. That's the bottom line.

'70's: some great DL (Estay, Sage, John Wood, etc) but not sure if any single unit was among the best
'82: Marshall, Dardar, Elko (but as noted almost no depth)
'86: Karl Wilson, Henry Thomas (best NG we've had), Barbay (some depth w/ Karl Dunbar)
'03: Spears, Lavalais, Williams, Hill (and pretty good depth)
'07: Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, Pittman, et al (lots of talent and depth but faded down the stretch)
IMO, '12 will be the most talented DL in LSU history. I think the maturing of those returning will offset the lose of Brockers (who was a great talent). I would be surprised if anyone attains to Lavalais '03 level but all in all '12 should be the best in our history.

Brockers was awesome, obviously he was a lottery pick basically. Freak was in the backfield almost every play last year that he was in on. I'd be shocked if he doesn't start. I don't think I am undervaluing Brockers, maybe overvaluing Freak but we will have to see on that on. I think he will be a Dorsey level tackle.

Very much agreed. Glad you mentioned Rasco and Edwards. Sam/Mingo better not look over their shoulder.

06 > 07 IMO (though mainly because of health). Dorsey put up basically the same numbers as he did in 07, Tyson was at his best, Cheese played the whole year, and that was RJF's most productive year (and he was a backup).
starters: Tyson, Dorsey, Cheese, Chase Pittman
backups: RJF, Fave, Al Woods, Ryan Willis

I think Josh Downs was still in the mix with the 1s, but I expect Freak to pass him up sooner than later.
a few of these comments reek of the preseason hype the 08 DL got, because we were losing Dorsey but RJF was potentially better. boy did that not turn out how some ppl expected.
