I thought he was on a baseball scholarship and was on the BB team. He also mentioned he played on the his HS golf team.

Apparently he threw 221 pitches in one of his HS games

He also was The Punter and Placekicker on the football team

don’t believe he was, maybe, but I think one year just about all of the team caught the flu and we almost didn’t have enough players to field a team and he stepped up, obviously played in hs

don’t believe he was,
A multisports athlete at Denham Springs High — All-State in basketball and baseball — McDonald opted to sign a basketball grant-in-aid and joined Dale Brown’s LSU Tigers. At 6-foot-7, McDonald dominated high school hardwoods. He also was an All-District punter and kicker — yes a 6-7 kicker — for Denham’s football team.
Elite 8 ‘87 team - not ‘86.

Dale allowed him to remain on his BB scholarship even after moving to baseball. Was classy move.

State quarterfinal game. I think it went 13 innings. Then two days later pitched the last two innings to win the state title.

Watched him his Sr year in the Livingston Parish Tournament in basketball. Ben didn't win that 3OT game.

Relevance?
My post was to the person that said he wasn’t on a basketball scholarship. I have no idea about what you’re talking about.

Did you know Ethan Frey was from Rosepine? LOL

Not only did I know that, but I also know that Ethan put his hand up and said "I'll be your DH, coach". I love Ben, however, he sure does copy and paste his commentary quite a lot. He has repeated the same talking points all season, and usually multiple times within a game. And he says it almost the exact same way, every time.
Am I the only one who has noticed this, or are we all just trying to act like we don't notice it, because we like him?

He fills the space pretty well.

Most games are not that long, and you don't need to fill space. That's what the game is for. I watch a lot of baseball, and most people can find different things to talk about, if they insist on talking constantly. Ben Constantly repeats the narrative that we "do it a little different this year", and how we don't hit as many home runs (as if nearly 100 home runs makes us a small ball team, suddenly), and how the strength of our team is run prevention, and how LSU was trying different guys out at DH and Ethan Frey put his hand up and said "I'll be your DH"... and on and on. And it's not only that he repeats the same narratives, but, like I said before, he says things in almost the exact same way every time. It's extremely repetitive.
There are plenty of things I enjoy about him being on the broadcast, but this is just something that I've noticed.

I was scouting that game as I was student teaching at Broadmoor and was an assistant baseball coach. We beat Natchitoches Central in the quarters and got the winner of Denham and Slidell.
We took the team home and Coach DiJohn and I went back to North Park and charted that game. I charted the Slidell pitcher who ended up at Tulane. I can't remember if it went 13 or 14 innings, but both Slidell pitcher (John Stuart?) and Ben were well over 200 pitches each.
After that, the charts didn't matter because we weren't going to see either one of them the next day. Denham Springs threw someone else not near as hard as Ben and we couldn't hit the junk and got beat.
I told my dad about it and he said that probably would be the longest I would ever see two pitchers throw in a baseball game and he was correct. Softball yes, but baseball no.

No issue with that because he is the best color guy in baseball college or pro

Watched him mow down Jesuit in Denham Springs. May have been in the State Tournament.

Ok. That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it.
