He was great last night. Calling his nephew vs his alma mater in BR worked out really well. I liked when he was telling what pitch his nephew should throw and why. That was cool

Ben and Kyle Peterson are excellent. CBB has done a good job with their top two PBP men.

This! These guys are top notch! I would love to buy these guys beers and talk baseball for hours

They are by far the best. Can you imagine both of them calling a game together. That would be awesome! I know they are both PBP guys. Would there be a chance they would call the Championship series together?

I really personally disliked Ben while we were in college . So It's not like I'm an LSU fanboy for athletes from my era. Now I think he is the absolute best at what he does. He's truly outstanding at his job and I tip my hat. I love it when Ben gets the call
Why'd you personally dislike him? I was in school at the same time. Knew some football players but no baseball players. I could easily believe baseball players to be the bigger jerks.

Side note: Kitchen and Eddie Fuller were about as nice as human beings could be. Biggest jerk was, for some reason, some scrub QB who hung around Kinchen. Brad something.

As for the topic, both Ben and Kyle are excellent.

One of the best pitchers in baseball. I would love for him to take over voice of the Tiger

Couldn't agree more. He helped me stay up last night to finish that game bc he constantly has you engaged in what's going on between batter/pitcher/catcher.

That's the key. Despite the fact that your team is WAY ahead with less than two innings to go in the game, Ben McDonald is SO outstanding that he will keep the audience tuned in and listening to his conversation about the baseball game. Few announcers can do this.

I didn't know Ben personally, despite coming into LSU the same year (and from a rival high school to boot, I remember seeing him on the basketball court at our gym. Dude was Denham's starting center);

I also don't know about that actual class of baseball players.

But I can say this: the early 90's teams were definitely full of themselves, especially after they won their first title. A lot of those guys were cocky and arrogant as hell; way more than, for example, All-SEC football players or All-American basketball players. So it wouldn't surprise me if Ben, being the wunderkind that he was (we all knew he was going to be the #1 pick in the draft), was a little full of himself.

I'm guessing that his time in the big leagues humbled him a lot, that seems to do it. You both grow up and mature, and also you see guys smashing your glorified fastball into the upper deck.

He seems like a great guy now, just as I imagine a lot of those others are, too. We all just grow up and try to live our lives at some point.

I played HS ball with T Kinchen . He was always nice but detached - he always flew solo. Ben had serious anger issues early ( like when he was a freshman) and I was there when he intimidated a smaller guy or was just generally rude for no reason. My frat was baseball central so I saw some of those guys after a few drinks and it wasn't all good ( except for my man Rob Hartwig ) And yeah - I always found baseball players to be far bigger toolbags than football or basketball players . Harvey Williams and Shaq were very laid back. Andolsek was not a warm fuzzy guy to strangers- Ruffin was - who cares though right?

All that said - who wasn't a bit of a douche canoe at 18. It comes with the territory. It's not what kind of boy you are, it's what kind of man you are, and Ben has obviously passed that test. Almost all of them turned out good over the long run.

A lot of baseball players are cocky. Nothing new. Somewhat needed being up to bat or on the mound and you are the focus, nobody to bail you out. No big deal.

It's true as a pitcher you need cockiness and a little piss and vinegar on the mound; but if you're wearing that to class, or church, or the coffee shop then you've crossed over to Doucheland.
