Meh, the definition may say former student, but it's pretty widely accepted that alumni implies you graduated from a university.

So Shaq isn't technically an alumn? Nor countless others I could start naming thst left before graduating.

Does an honorary degree count?

Y'all dumb. Attended LSU = alumni

Shaq was at LSU for 3 years, that's a terrible comparison. If Ben would've just finished out the year, sure call him an alumn if you want, but the dude didn't even do that. Shows how much he cares about LSU as a university.

so widely accepted, that it's not the definition, huh? Damn, you sound smart. I hope you're not an LSU alum. That wouldn't speak very well of LSU.

Even with that definition, is he considered a former student if he didn't go to class and couldn't even finish the year?

That's why the NBA sucks balls. They are just desperate for the next one who might be a star, and the shoe companies are worse.

Alumni
quote:

a graduate or former student, especially male, of a particular school, college, or university.

From Dictionary.com
Still dont't even consider him a student. He was just an athlete.. considering he never went to class Must be nice.

Not Shaq

But Ben Simmons. Yet the retards in our fanbase who don't know shite about sports think Simmons is partially to blame. It is quite fascinating

Ben is NONE of these. As a former "student" I wonder what his credits earned looked like. I never did so hot when I skipped class. That shoe deal says a lot about the values in America these days.
Alumna, alumnae, alumni, alumnus
Alumni is a plural noun referring either to a group male graduates or to a group of both male and female GRADUATES. The singular alumnus refers to one male graduate, alumna refers to one female graduate, and the plural alumnae refers to a group of female graduates. These Latin loanwords preserve their original plural forms, and incorrect use of the words abounds because many speakers of English are understandably unfamiliar with the genders and plurals of Latin nouns.

wow, this sure is a whole lot of energy being spent on a technical definition.

Regardless, I think it's very, very difficult to consider Simmons an alum (which I consider to be a graduate, but whatever). He was here a few months, barely went to class, and dropped out as soon as he could.

Really hard to call that kind of person an alum.

How do you design a Ben Simmons shoe.

Is there a manufacturing process that basically eliminates the wearer from contact with any other surface.

I got it, its a freaking hover shoe. That way it doesn't have to work in conjuction with any other shoe. It can be declared the greatest shoe on the planet in spite of flaws that prevent it from performing the essential functions of footwear.

Jesus Christ man, you people act like Ben had Iverson type press conferences. He always spoke highly of LSU, his teammates, his coaches, and himself. Does that last part rustle you that much? Because it doesn't seem to bother people when every other athlete does it

I don't care.

His actions on the court showed a guy trying to mimic a player like Lebron versus doing things to help his team win.

IMO.

I love the Simmons complaints here. You idiots can't even reach a consensus on what he did "wrong". In the same thread you have those claiming he wasn't selfish enough:

quote:

Our superstar didn't play up to expectations, had multiple opportunities to exert his dominance, and failed to do so while obviously deferring to lesser players on several occasions. He doesn't get a free pass for that
.

And others claiming he was too selfish

Maybe one day the idiots on here will realize that Simmons put up numbers that EVERY COLLEGE HEAD COACH would dream of having their guy put up. The problem was not Simmons, but the fact that LSU has an AWFUL head coach. One who has never won anything of significance in 16 years as a HC and one would would have never been considered for any other power conf. job but LSU. Jones could get the top High School player in the country for the next 4 years and still not do much (if any) better than he did last season.

I applaud the kid, who could have gone to any school in the country, for coming to LSU to play for an absolute joke of a head coach. He committed a year before signing day and never wavered from that commitment even after watching Jones underachieve with an All-SEC frontcourt. He had multiple opportunities to express regret or anger with his coach, teammates, etc., and he never did.
