Been thinking about the long layoff and who it may benefit.

First, it's clear both teams benefit from recovery from injuries...that's a wash.

I think both teams have to be careful about peaking too early, and even Burrow said it is getting old looking at game film, but I think he meant he is just ready to play.

The long layoff, the game in New Orleans, family and friends all around the team, ticket requests, etc could wear on LSU...distractions always a concern.

But, I actually think from a psychological point of view, this favors LSU. I think the underdog ploy, "us versus the world" mentality and motivation that CLemson is not good enough from Dabo is not a strategy one can continue to promote long term. I thought it best to keep that strategy for a week or so to get the team pumped and peaked for the next game a week later. But now, even the talking heads are laughing about Dabo's comments as they continue day to day.

So, we'll see, but hard to keep that "chip on the shoulder" and have the team so angry for 16 days, when after one thinks about it, the reasoning is shallow.

Just my thoughts.

CLemson is an elite team.....no doubt. Plays in a crap conference, but that doesn't diminish how good this team is and what a great job Dabo has done. But, LSU is a team of destiny and I think LSU pulls it out in single digits.

Doesn’t favor either team. It’s only a talking point to whatever team is more mentally weak or insecure.

In any sport, it’s very difficult to repeat as champions. Especially from the psychological viewpoint. LSU 48-35

I think the underdog thing can go one of two ways. Either the guys over achieve or they start believing that they are the underdog and doubt gets created.

I thought Ryan Day did his players a huge disservice when he started whining about playing Clemson right after the selection show. If you remember, Ed’s attitude the whole time before was “anybody, anywhere, anytime.” You can’t measure how much confidence your team gets knowing that their coach thinks that.

Nah. LSU will come out firing on all cylinders. They've faced better front sevens and better receiving corps. Clempson has seen nothing equivalent to LSU.

A chip on your shoulder lasts until about the time the ball gets kicked off. If you ever played sports at any kind of higher level, you’re not thinking about perceived slights when your catching your breath, verifying your assignment, and playing the game. Enough of this shite.

We sound as whiny as Clemson coming up with just as many perceived slights as we criticize Dabo for.

Clemson was definitely more beat up... so the longer layoff definitely helped them there.

I am just glad Lewis and Marshall had time as well.

I think the main advantage I give to the layoff is it gives Venables enough time to try and install something or figure out something that may cause us problems for a small stretch of the game.

A formation, blitz, coverage or wrinkle that he may not have had time to install otherwise.

Look what he did to Tua last year - that interception early was a nice design based upon what Bama had been doing. They couldn't call it too often, but they picked a good spot and it paid off for them.

I expect something similar this time game - Now whether it confuses Joe into a sack, interception, or Joe is able to adjust and find the weakness will help define the game.

Clemson has been here before and most of their players have a ring. This is the biggest game in the career of every single LSU player with no guarantee they will ever get another chance. Motivational factors are meaninglessness. This game comes down to talent, preparation and execution.
