SEC Football: Ranking Every Team by 2016 Coaching Staff

1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Texas A&M
4. Ole Miss
5. LSU
6. Georgia
7. Tennessee
8. Auburn
9. Arkansas
10. South Carolina
11. Kentucky
12. Mississippi State
13. Missouri
14. Vanderbilt

WTF is this? Florida and A&M in the top three of the SEC? Look, I know LSU has lost a lot of big names from the staff the last two years, but this is absolutely horrific. What has Tennessee won lately that puts them over Auburn? How is a South Carolina unit that has never coached a game together ahead of some of these other schools like Moo State that have sustained "success".

We can always count on you, Bleacher Report....

I would definitely put Mississippi State over A&M in the coaching department.

Wait, are we supposed to laugh because they didn't put LSU at the top, therefore showing their "stupidity"?

The team at the top clearly deserves to be at the top. It's the rest of the list that makes no sense.

FTR, UF did win the SECe in their first season.

A&M's rank seems really odd. Chavis is a solid DC but the rest of their staff has a lot to prove.

Is this not a staff as a whole? Not just HC?

LSU would be top 3.

Tremendous D coordinator who is LB coach, Secondary coach, & D-line coach

Excellent RB coach, good WR coach. Pretty good Oline coach.. Experienced OC and Les for his faults is still an organized HC.

I just dunno.. How can a team like a&m who LSU constantly beats and is a mess be ranked ahead of LSU? Even Les Owns Sumlin.

It really isn't that bad of a list. And miss state has not had sustained sucsess plus they lost a ton. Pretty decent list I think.

Obligatory qualifier - Aranda hasn't coached a game much less an entire season.

But at this juncture I would not trade out D staff for any other in CFB.

OTOH, you have to deduct a lot of points for the dysfunction on the O side.

What?

He's been a DC for about 5 years.

His defense just held USC to 21 in a bowl game victory.

quote:

Two of Aranda's three years at Wisconsin one of his linebackers won the Big Ten Linebacker of the Year, Chris Borland in 2013 and Joe Schobert in 2015. Borland also won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2013. Aranda alongside his OLB coach Tim Tibesar were named Linebacker Coaches of the Year for 2015 by FootballScoop.[11] Over Aranda's three year span as defensive coordinator at Wisconsin his defense ranked first nationally in total defense, second in scoring defense, third in pass defense and fourth in run defense.[12] His final season with the Badgers his defense came in first in scoring defense, allowing just 13.1 points per game.[13]

quote:

In 2012, Aranda was the Defensive Coordinator for one year for or the Utah State Aggies under Gary Andersen. That same year Aranda was a nominee for the Broyles Award as the Aggies defense finished in the top 15 of all FBS schools in all four major defensive categories; seventh in scoring defense (15.4 points per game), 13th in rushing defense (113.8 yards per game), eighth in pass-efficiency defense (14 interceptions, 12 touchdowns, 54.1% completion rate, 5.7 yards per attempt) and 14th in total defense (322.1 ypg).[2][3]

H2h, Even his defense held us in check until we finally broke through in the 4th quarter based to beat them by 4 points.

He really only had one bad game at Wisconsin and that was against an Ohio St national championship team they were clearly out-matched against and their offense turned the ball over 4 times. That same Ohio St team worked Bama's D for 42 points and 500+ yards as well.

Any ways, he's been consistently successful with what he has had to work with. You must be one of those oh it wasn't in the SEC type of guys.. but keep in mind he didn't have SEC defensive talent to work with.. Saban was a DC at a Big ten school before he became a HC there.

What was UCLA's? Or is A&M getting credit for their OC having SEC experience and getting fired twice?
