Stars would have to align just right. Impossible!

But yet the same was said after the Arkansas game last year.

I believe you believe.

I don't share your optimism for LSU's prospects this season though.

I think LSU will win the west. The division isn't really that strong this season, and even in a "down" year for LSU you should pull that out.

I believe LSU may finally break the "Auburn jinx" and win there this year (I hope to be at that game).

I don't think LSU will be better than either UGA or Florida, and if either of those two teams wins the SEC East, they'll very likely win the SECCG and have a good shot at the BCS title.

I think LSU will end up in a Florida bowl game in January, but it won't be in Miami.

Same here. All you can hope for are things to fall in place.

I will say that LSU as of late, has had a very strong well coached defense that is capable of great things. As long as the defense is able to hold opponents until the offense comes around then they should be able to contend for the SEC again and possible a NC.

I think people are underestimating LSU at this point not realizing that they will return a stingy defense with tons of talent and speed.

I wouldn't bet the house, but I do think we have as good a shot as any team in the top 10-15.

Different story if we get Bradford-esque play from
our young QB and decent coverage from our CBs...LOOK OUT!

You can't ever bet the house. Betting the field against any team is always a better bet. Any season can turn on one play. Lucky breaks are needed.

That being said. I wouldn't bet against LSU repeating either...

Even in LSU were to go undefeated and beat USC 1000 to 0 in the BCS game, nothing could cap last season.

Championships are great, but overcoming what LSU overcame last season, plus all of the memorable 4th downs and trick plays...

...LSU football 2007 was as good as it gets.

+1. The awesome thing about this thread is the thread itself. We are talking about a possible Nat'l Championship and it's not delusional talk. LSU football is where we've always dreamed of it being. We ARE in the mix. And I believe most people, including some of us, are underestimating this team. This is college, not the NFL, attrition happens every year. And we are as talented as ANYONE. Everytime someone went down last year, the position was filled with very little drop off, if any at all. Until that stops happening, I believe we can keep winning. Undefeated? Maybe not. Miami? Maybe not. BCS bowl? Likely. And if not, we will still be having this same conversation next year, and the next, and the next.......and THAT is an awesome thing.

Geaux Tigers!

honestly... who would have thought we would have made it last year.. the stars had to align, teams had to lose, and guess what, it happened..

wouldn't be surprised if that happened again

sorry to say but with RP (if he had any character at all) i think we would have a great shot.

A lot of people here in Florida think that because he's gone our hopes are down the drain. I take the glass half full approach. I didn't really expect him to make it to the season and I never, ever expected him to make it through the season. If he had made it into the season but then gotten kicked off during it, we would have been screwed. Now we have no fear at all of that sort of a distraction. I actually prefer going into the season without him, and I think it actually helps our chances.

I think it's possible. I'm not even going to say not likely. I believe that LSU will definitely in the top 10 and possibly in the NC race. I predict a rematch with LSU and GA in the SEC Championship game though both teams with one to two losses.

I would not bet it all this year, but I would bet a significant amount of money on LSU raising the crystal football again in the next two or three years.

I don't believe there is ever a safe bet in college football, but I believe that the LSU team will step up this year. That has been the trend for us in the past and I believe it will be the case again this year. We are still hungry and have a lot to prove. Did I say I believe? I believe!

I believe the opposite...and it's because I have a "the glass is half empty" approach.

Following the NC, I felt strongly that RP was going to have a blowout at some point during the season. By "blowout" I mean him doing something stupid that would either get him suspended for a game or two, or kicked off the team outright. It's not that I'm all that intuitive...just the kid's not that hard to read. Based on his past performance and aberrant behavior, it was only a matter of time before he stepped on his crank.

I think we have a better chance of winning with Lee/Hatch/Jefferson/Colt David running the offense than if RP were the starter going into the fall. Here's how I envisioned the 2008 season playing out: RP'd likely have led us to a spectacular win over Auburn, getting the team to 4-0 and in the driver's seat of the West. His head would swell to epic proportions following that win, and a frogstomping of Moo State in week five would throw more fuel on the fire.

RP would then do something stupid in the bye week before the @Florida-@S. Carolina-Georgia stretch and we'd be in a heap of sh*t.

I'm glad Coach Miles had the stones to do what he did. The team is better off - and will win more games this year - because of it.

Of course...I can't prove any of what I just said...

I wouldn't call any team's chances of winning the NC in any year "real good", but I think LSU is one of about 10 or so teams this year who have a realistic chance, and maybe only a couple of them have a materially better chance than we do.

IMHO, not this year, due to schedule, but look out for 2011--NC game is back in N.O.

I bet on Def. win's championships, especially with both lines looking great. This o-line might be the best I remember, and really, this d-line may be too.
