Downfall - Der Untergang

Posted by PaganMoralist on 7/8/09 at 2:42 am
I watched this movie recently and I had a few thoughts on it.

First, the visuals of a burned out Berlin were very good and looked amazing. You were transported back into that moment with the depiction of the Reich capital in tatters. I thought it looked great.

The actor that portrayed Hitler. Initially(first few scenes) I didnt think he was a good representation but as the movie progressed, not only did he look exactly like him, but he had all the mannerismsa and idiosyncrasies as described by various authors in Hitlers last days. I was very impressed and thought he was masterful in the role.

Now the problems I had with the movie.

The movie seemed to depict the Germans in a sympathetic light. For example the Doctor(Ernst Gunter Schenk) that sticks around to assist was a doctor at Dachau and experimented on hundreds of concentration camp prisoners, many of whom died. In this depiction he is a sympathetic figure that just happens to be an SS doctor.

SS Brigadefuhrer Monkne is merely depicted as another SS officer caught in a bad situation. He is presented in a sympathetic light. The man was implicated in numerous atrocities but in this movie we are supposed to feel sorry for him. Yeah, okay.

And the final complaint. Hitlers secretary. The final line she gives what would be the standard German response in order to alleviate them of any guilt. "How could we know?" She was only Hitlers secretary and heard him rail against the Jews consistently. She lived in Germany and saw Jews being deprived of every Earthly possession and then forced to move. What did she think was going on? What did everyone else think was going on? No one noticed any of this?

Such lies from the average German. They knew something sinister was going on, they knew and they instead blamed the SS.

The movie lends a certain credence to this reasoning and I found it distasteful.
Star Wars - Phantom Menace

What you got?

Gran Torino - Overrated Garbage

Posted by PaganMoralist on 7/8/09 at 2:17 am
I finally saw Gran Torino. Terrible acting, dumb plot line, moronic dialogue, stupid ending.

Just a god awful film. Not Transformers Revenge of the Fallen bad(nothing is that bad) but terrible nonetheless.
So much for a so called home field advantage.

Thanks for the little known facts.
Yeah, its going to be a long off season with the bitter taste of a double digit defeat at the hands of Utah.

Plus Bama will probably have a down year next year.

Good luck with that.
lol

Okay, youre right, the BCS system is perfect, no wonder they have never tweaked it.

HILARIOUS

Nothing is worse than Brotherhood of the Wolf.
They certainly did prove it this year, thats to be sure.

Good call.
Wouldnt mattered, OSU would have lost.

Tressels lost his touch and Pryor is the worst passing QB in the history of CFB.

Once Were Warriors is a foreign film right?

Loved that movie.

Kitts driver AND a passenger that looked like she just got off the runway from a modeling gig.
Wildcat, can you post a link to the thread that caused your complete mental collapse because of something I posted?

Thanks.
I have no problem with a playoff format, whats preposterous is a system that says a one loss team is worse than another one loss team that beat them by double digits because that one loss team didnt beat their remaining opponents by enough points.

That is quite different from a playoff system.
Good thing for LSU that Oregon Sts kicker missed 3 xtra points so they can mock losing to Oregon St because they beat by a point at home.

Thats good.

re: USC Question

Posted by PaganMoralist on 1/21/09 at 2:20 pm to
So we can all agree now that the so called love for USC is a wild fantasy.

Someone want to remind me of the final AP poll and present it as evidence of the infatuation with USC by the media?

Thank you.
Arent they supposed to have 4 OOC games?
Who does Bama have slinging the rock to Julio next year?
Whats their OOC schedule look like? Looks like they get most of thier difficult in conference games at home.
The manner in which Alabama lost and how they played was embarrassing and if you dont think so then you arent a Bama fan.

The team showed no fight, no pride and were whipped silly. PERIOD.

Guess if the media was really so in love with USC they wouldve ranked ahead of Bama.

So much for that myth.

Thanks lsumatt.
