1. No distractions-bye Ben.
2. Blakeney improvement in ball handling skills. Better shot selection, more drives and pull up jumpers.
3. Sampson looks more confident with his shot and better shot selection.
4. Rim protector, shot blocker on inside. Reath and possibly Epps.
5. Better outside shooting - Blakeney, Sampson, Hayward, Epps, possibly Sims.
6. Better all around team defense possible.

All this is just based on the first exhibition game. We still haven't see four key team members play. Opposition for the exhibition game was of course not very good. Really looking forward to the season opener.

The most important stat is turnovers and if they don't fix that they won't win enough tournament worthy games to get you to NCAA's.

Interior defense has to improve as well.

You really cant take anything away from playing a team full of scrubs. Reath looked good but was playing against guys way shorter than him. Of course guys like him and Epps look strong on the glass and inside when they got 4-5" on the guys they are going against.

Quarterman and Ben's rift was a big distraction, but considering how close Ben was with everyone else on the team, I'd say TQ was the bigger distraction. Also, losing your top player in 5 categories is never good

Reath will be very good. Epps doesn't look improved at all

Sampson lit it up early last season and then was terrible. I don't think Hayward is going to play that much once Jenkins and JP are back. Sims is below average shooting and he won't play a lot unless we are in trouble. We actually will be very poor shooting unless AB and Sampson carry us. Reath can actually make 3's though and so can Victor, that should help.

We looked as bad as ever. Played a terrible team and allowed them to shoot lights out from 3. Most of which were wide open.

I love LSU basketball, but we will continue to be frustrating to watch at times

Agreed with everything you've posted, but Reath is still TDB for me. I just can't allow myself to make any conclusions about him based on 1 exhibition against a glorified high school team.

Offset by the fact that you don't have Ben anymore.
2. Blakeney improvement in ball handling skills. Better shot selection, more drives and pull up jumpers.
Yes....he's one year older.
3. Sampson looks more confident with his shot and better shot selection.
He looked great last year during exhibition season too
4. Rim protector, shot blocker on inside. Reath and possibly Epps.
Seriously?
5. Better outside shooting - Blakeney, Sampson, Hayward, Epps, possibly Sims.
Lost Hornsby and picked up Hayward. How's this an improvement?
6. Better all around team defense possible.

I wish I shared your enthusiasm....but this team will be lucky to win 17 games and 8 in conference. JJ sucks and that won't change.

I'm really looking forward to us firing Johnny Jones' sorry @ss so we can start to move the program forward after almost two decades in the desert.

Defense was still a joke. They overplay everything in an attempt to force steals and in the process give up a shite ton of easy looks. LSU has been among the SEC leaders in steals each of Jones' 4 years and at the bottom of the league in defensive efficiency ('14-'15 being the lone exception). They don't contest shots. They just hope (a) they can take the ball away or (b) the opponent misses so they can rebound and get out on the fast break. Jones places no emphasis on defense.

Interesting... and well said. With last year's team it kinda makes sense cause when opponents got set on defense we couldn't score; hence, Jones simply had to get a break going. But we would all rather lead in efficiency than steals

The '16-'17 edition of LSU Basketball has nowhere near enough talent to overcome the subpar coaching and have a good or better season. All the what-ifs with players are akin to straightening the deck chairs on the Titanic, it simply won't matter by the end February.

It brings me no joy to state this opinion, I truly wish CJJ were the answer to LSU's coaching needs.

He's not.

Victor consistently hitting that elbow J would help a lot. Jenkins brings some toughness but we'll still be poor defensively.

Most important factors are turnovers, defense and defensive rebounding for this team. Jones teams often are adequate to good on offensive end and in offensive transition.

Won the SEC in 2009.

I think skylar mays will create scoring opportunities that we haven't seen in a while. He is a pure point guard, great passer and can get to the rim consistently. If he can figure it out on the defensive side, he can be all SEC.

I agree with you on trying for too many steals and not playing position. A lot of young players out there and first game of the year, as well as an opponent they couldn't take seriously. They have a lot of time to get better and hopefully they will. Likewise a lot of the turnovers come from trying to push the fast break too hard and taking too many chances. Again first game of year against a not serious opponent.

We did have 9 blocks which you can write off to the height advantage but I think it is more than that. As for shooting lights out on the three ball, we shot better 59% to 48%, they just shot more of them because they had no inside game.

We won't really tell if we are any good until we get to the tournament in the Bahamas. I am always hopeful. Don't know why the rest of you are so negative. If we are that bad then nothing was hurt by hoping? And you know what it could be a lot better than you think.

We say the same thing after every exhibition. We gave up 80 points to a glorified high school team. Nothing has changed. Our ceiling is 10-8 with an NIT birth.

"two decades in the desert" ???

Forget the SEC title and Final Four in 2006?

SEC title in 2009?
