If NET is the new go to matrix as they are saying it is then it truly is a big game for us.

Little early for scoreboard watching, but definitely pulling for Okla. St. over Nebraska tonight.

Nice. Tigers jumped from #39 to #34 with the win last night.

St Mary’s moved up after we beat them as well! That’s strange.

Maybe losing in the new winning in this new system... But then, we moved up with the win, as well.

I love nonsensical college ratings logic. It's so delightfully illogical(insert demented mad hatter voice)!

shows how much neutral court and away games against quality opponents matter.

Look at LSU's losses. None are bad
two neutral, one away.
Opponents were elite, good, very good. All tier one or two to be specific.

edit: After checking, OSU has since tanked. 4-6 record now...

St Mary has played 12 games. Just because they lost the 1 game doesnt mean the other 11 teams results dont matter.

I'm sure St Mary's other previous opponents had a good night and that's the reason they went up in NET. Sometimes people take for granted which results actually determine moves in RPI or NET.

The most interesting thing to me about NET is the HUGE difference in a lot of teams vs. RPI right now. I figured it would be different (why change otherwise), but some of the differences are just crazy.

Looking at warren nolan comparison, UVa is the #1 NET team, they are #20 in RPI. I mean 20 spots doesnt sound huge, but #1 to #20 is a gigantic difference.

Kentucky is #29 in NET, but #115 in RPI.

Furman our next opponent is #26 in NET but #100 in RPI.

As many knew, St. Mary's was/is a quality team. They've played a quality schedule to this point, and they will contend in a much improved conference.

Yea doing some research right now. I like NET more than RPI for a lot of reasons but my biggest concern is the lack of transparency that I am seeing. I cant find exact calculations for big parts of NET. I feel like its so expansive that they just excpet basketball fans to trust its a good metric.

I'm a math guy and I want to know exactly how they weight each portion of the NET not just what factors go into it.

Same here, I'm curious to see what has changed. That being said, have to take it like the bible because that's what the committee said they're using now.

NET also includes efficiency ratings. UK is 16th in Kenpom. But with NET/RPI they have really zero wins of any note (they play UNC and Louisville back to back, so that could change quickly)

On the other hand, the metrics don't like Furman (as you noteds). However, Furman has 5 road wins.

It's early, but I think what we are seeing with NET is just how important it is to win AWAY from home. Even moreso than under the old RPI format. That's why that loss to Houston is so crushing. That would have been an enormous win and likely had LSU in the top 25 (NET) or close to it.

The big differences are efficiency and scoring margin. RPI didnt use that at all. I like the scoring margin cap but i think 10 is pretty low. I would have capped scoring margin at 15 but I like having that. I guess efficiency picks up slack though on scoring margin seeing that youre going to be more efficient than your opponent if you blow them out.

But come on Team Value Index is the highest weighted part of NET and they dont give us a calculation on how it's created besides factors.
