Very true. I’m retired and was thinking about driving down that Friday to go to afternoon game and drive back Saturday to watch some football.
My last LSU basketball game was in 1986 when Anthony Wilson’s “put back” beat Memphis State to go to the Sweet 16.
Might as well go spend the night at The Greenbriar.

No, but why not go? The Greenbrier is nice on its own and LSU will at least be playing one power conf. opponent (Pitt) with the possibility of playing Wisconsin. They will probably expand the seating a little bit because it is a college game, but it's going to be a setting where you can watch major conf. basketball up close

To be fair, Wade didn't perform well in the holiday tournaments. 6-7 record overall at LSU. On the other hand, the holiday tournaments are probably the area McMahon has performed best. 4-2 record (in two seasons)

So if your reasoning for not going is worry that LSU will get beat, you had a better chance of seeing that with a Wade coached LSU team than McMahon.

There are a LOT of reasons to be critical of McMahon thus far. But if you are going to be critical at least be accurate

Maybe. If we do well in that tournament it could lead to an NCAA Tournament berth at the end of the year.

Everybody says LSU men's basketball will suck this season, so why bother?

If they open up with a few early wins, may reconsider

No, LSU just hasn't shown anything to spend time and money on them. At this point, it's worth waiting out the rebuild with a new coach in two years

Yes! I live in NOVA and have a close friend with family near Beckley. Not many chances to see basketball live. It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving so just have to manage schedules a bit.

If you don't live anywhere near Baton Rouge and LSU is playing at a school near you, why wouldn't you go?

I can see this and yes still have concerns, but not quite ready to throw in the towel. I do think he's scheduled up some this year, even have a couple of decent home OOC games....so we'll find out earlier than usual what we have. I hope he can find some success, I want him to as it means my basketball team is doing well, which is what I want.

This will be his most talented roster. I think they have a chance to get above .500 in conference and be a bubble team for the tourney

Exactly. How can you not be excited about this season? I’ll jump off the bandwagon if it’s another disappointing season, but I haven’t given up on em yet.

Too bad we won’t see Trey’Dez Green play in non-conference

TBD.

As I said earlier, McMahon has performed well in the Thanksgiving tournaments (whereas Wade often didn't). The issue has been everything that came after that.

If you look at LSU's non-conf. schedule I think they have to go at least 11-2. They only play one true road game (Kansas St). Presumably they could at least split the Greenbrier tournament. After that, everything is favorable. Florida St is at home coming off a mediocre year. SMU is a neutral site game. But they have a new HC and mostly new roster. You have to wonder how good they will be in the first month of the season.

I like McMahon personally. If you watch some of the social media clips you can see he's trying to "coach" his players beyond basketball to be good and respectful guys. I think he's about the right things. But the bottom line is a basketball coach has to win. If in year 3, in a sport where fortunes can change dramatically literally in the course of one season, McMahon can't find success, you have to seriously question if he ever will at LSU and consider other options
