Young was injured last season. Thompson has never sniffed the kind of numbers Young put up when healthy. It's definitely possible that he never got back to old form, but Young's ceiling is higher. He was a top 25 prospect out of high school, top SS in the nation. Played on the junior national teams, etc.

Wasn't Thompson also injured? Young had one full productive season in 2021. Higher ceiling sure, but not slam dunk enough to for sure keep a guy like Thompson off the field, moot point anyway now. I think Pineda was always going to sign and it would've been Carter/Thompson up the middle more so than Pineda.

And just like that Thompson was 2-2 tonight. Both hits were over 100 mph.

I think he's going to take a step forward in power this year. He went down in HRs from Fr to So, but went wayyy up in doubles. I think some of those doubles are going to turn into HRs this year. I think he hits 10 HRs and near .300 on the season.

If you’re right, then we’re in for a nice ride. The errant throws from him are a concern, but those offensive numbers would help to alleviate them.

I think those throws improve with a healthy knee.

Have to think if Neal does at least a half decent job in limiting the opposing run game he's going to take over by mid April as most freshmen do.

or game 1

By SEC play hoping it’s something like this:

Morgan 1B
Crews CF
White 3B
Pearson LF
Jones DH
Thompson SS
Dugas 2B
Kling RF
Neal C

DAmn, not too far off minus Pearson. And id wish they'd circle back to him a bit
