You realize you’re quoting a guy who didn’t know that Milazzo got a hit in his first AB of spring right?

I think we can all agree that we're just hoping for Milazzo to improve at the plate and for Thompson to solidify SS. Anything else is strictly opinion or just projecting. Nothing we've seen since they've gotten here proves that Milazzo will improve at the plate or that Thompson will solidify SS.

I mean Thompson was fine as a freshman. Not elite but fine. Pretty close to Bregman’s freshman season and that guy turned out to be a pretty decent defensive player for us.

He crumbled at the end of his freshman season on defense. He swung it well. It's just been alot of ups and downs. He's had moments, which I guess is "fine", but I think we're all hoping to see more consistency if we're talking about a solid SEC shortstop. Or, maybe that's just me. And, everyone else is just okay with "fine"...meaning that he can hit, field, and throw in spurts.

We all want him to get better I’m just pointing out that he has shown enough to give fans hope. He was fine his freshman year and he was pretty damn good the last two months of the season last year. I don’t see any reason to not be optimistic about what Thompson is going to bring to the table this year.

He was bad for as long at the end of his freshman season as he was average, good, or whatever you want to give him credit for at the end of his sophomore season.

I'm optimistic about what he brings to the table from a talent standpoint. I have been since day 1. I still am. He just hasn't shown it consistently. And, he hasn't shown it consistently during the fall and spring heading into his year 3. I hope the projection and production all come together on both sides of the ball and for more than just spurts. Or, maybe he stays just fine...which is fine for this team...then goes off as a senior.

Did Tanks make a throwing error or kick the ball around?

You literally just said this in the scrimmage 4 thread, and then you come in here and say this.

I'm hoping that he has a good enough season to not be here as a senior. If he has to come back, it means he didn't have the season we needed and he probably isn't our starting SS next year regardless.

Yes and no. We're going to be real young in the infield next year unless Jay goes huge at SS in the portal (which is very possible, but I like the infield kids coming in, with Guidry, Nippolt, and Tanks also returning). If Thompson is just fine this year, he isn't going anywhere...and he can be a glue guy next year.

Milazzo has had multiple scrimmages with walks and some with multiple walks. He had a sac and a rbi. Quit paying attention to hits and average with him. We all know that won’t be the best but if he puts together good enough at bats to be some type of productive and he stays strong behind the plate he will play a lot. That said, Neal will also play a lot because he can hit.

If I was reading numbers correctly, Milazzo had a successful squeeze bunt today. Frey was on third.

I don’t see any way he is the SS next year. If he plays average to above defense his bat will have him drafted high enough to leave, if he doesn’t Johnson isn’t going to swing and miss twice in his attempt to replace him.

That's exactly my thoughts as well.

White, playing 3rd, threw wide of 1st on a grounder by Jones to start the 7th inning. Frey was unable to glove the ball.

For the guys that have pitched against our starting lineup type guys and have held their own, they will face easier competition in the season.

Not much easier than other sec teams but a little easier . the guys that have held down crews and tanks are gonna be great this year

Our front end rotation guys are striking out a lot of great hitters this spring so far . If they can cut down on walks then we won’t have to score much
