A tad funny that the 5’10 185lb guys are ahead of the 6’4 220 lb guys for the lead at catcher.

Feel bad for travinski, probably wont get much playing time

CATCHER

I have been waiting for this to come out since the first pitch banquet! Love these segments.

One thing that is going to be very weird for me is seeing Milazzo wear number 7 this year.

Travinski will get a fair bit of ABs this season, though they may not always be in big spots. If I had to take a guess earlier in the season it'll be something like 2-3 games per week of Milazzo at C with Neal getting 1-2 games. Once the pecking order between the top two gets more established I suspect midweek games you'll see a lot more of Travinski and others (maybe starting or maybe just early subs) to keep the main guys rested. Would be a luxury to have all your catchers fresh all season and I think it's one we may be able to afford this year.

Thanks Adam. Always look forward to this thread every year. If there was (is? There should be) a TD hall of fame, you'd have my vote

Jones gonna get his at bats at DH - light tower power
Frey will have to wait his turn and could be a candidate at 1B once Morgan and Beloso are gone

Neal is the future at C but agree with everything he said, Milazzo will be needed to nurture this pitching staff along especially with how tough the early SEC schedule is and Neal will likely need some time to adjust to SEC pitching and being able to handle a staff in those games

This is why a 6th year guy like Beloso should be gone. You’re taking reps and development time away from your future.

I'll wait for his 1B update but Beloso likely knows his role and pecking order
I'm confident Johnson has communicated that to him already
This is it for Beloso, one more chance for Omaha in whatever role it is and than he can move on with his life and get married

Beloso is not a 6th year guy. He started at LSU in 2019.

2019 - Freshman
2020 - doesnt count
2021 - Sophomore
2022 - Junior (missed due to injury)
2023 - Senior

5th year guy, and technically due to him missing all of last season with the covid year as well he COULD come back for a 6th year should he want it in 2024 and he doesnt count against any of the 35-man roster spots assuming they keep that rule 1 more year where it's 35+5.
