Regardless of who starts, I wouldn't think they would go deeper than the 5th inning.

60-75 pitches always seems like the opening weekend number. I would guess Marceaux and Labas will be closer to 75 and Hill will be closer to 60.
Also depends on how many innings as well with the up and down, the additional warm ups, etc.

I think its more to do with Mainieri always seems to want his most experienced pitcher (that is either his #1 or #2 pitcher) as the opening night starter. With nerves and what not.

I think Marceaux is the safer bet to get deeper with those 75 pitches though. At least right now.

Out of him an Labas? May be a toss up. I think josh is right about going with Mainieri's normal reasoning though. Put the guy out there that's going to be least affected by nerves on opening night.
I've been listening to a ton of baseball preview podcasts lately. One thing that's being mentioned a lot for SEC teams is that guys like Connor Prielipp (Bama) and Jack Leiter (Vandy) are really good, but they've also never pitched an SEC game.
LSU has two weekend starters with SEC experience, plus Hill.
Vandy will have 1. Florida will have 2. Ole Miss will have 2 I think.
It may not be a huge deal, but it's a small advantage we will have.

Agree on prielipp, but didnt leiter actually face some decent competition last year?

I was talking about between Marceaux and Hill.

Oh I agree that this is the most likely reasoning

With practice picking back, injuries are picking back up. There is a lot of concern over guys having missed a ton of time due to covid starting back up and getting injured.
Kendall Rogers tweeted out that he's heard of a few injuries around the country that haven't been reported yet. I'm hoping our past bad luck will give us a pass this year.

Welp, you just scared the hell out of me now.
It makes sense, but man, thats a sobering thought

Well that’s not what I wanted to read a week before the season starts

Could you add LH/RH next to the new guy's names?

Milazzo was such a breath of fresh air last year.
I’m sure it was simply a matter of him being a true freshman playing under the lights, but I recall several inexplicable passed balls from him last year. Not always caused by being crossed up either. I hope he lives up to the defensive hype.

Are we talking about the same player?

Milazzo had 2 passed balls charged to him. It's possible he was in the game for some of the wild pitches charged to the pitchers as well. But there were only 10 of those.

I wasn’t writing notes in my notepad at the time, but I definitely recall pitches that should have been caught. It happens, and he’s obviously a good player. Looking forward to watching him play an entire season.

I feel like youre talking about Saul Garza the year before...
Milazzo was solid defensively. Garza was surely not
