Doughty, Morgan, Crews?, Beloso. If another lefty (Gio, Safford) emerges at leadoff, you just slide everybody back one slot.

I’d like to see something like

Gio
Doughty
Morgan
Beloso
Crews

In the top 5

If Dugas is really going you slide him in there somewhere

He's trimmed down some, which I don't necessarily think means he got weaker but I do believe that means he hasn't focused any more on a power swing

I’ve gotta disagree here. He trimmed down by losing bad weight and typically one only gets stronger doing that.

Idk that it’ll translate to more power numbers or not but hopefully the rest of the lineup carries their weight and allows him to let it rip a little more in advantageous situations.

Too often in the past have we relied on Cade to just get on base. I’m hoping we have more base runners in leverage positions so we can look for the big fly a little more often.

I'm not opposed to that at all. I actually hope Gio becomes the leadoff guy.

I guess we will see. I hope he did get stronger. Nothing I've seen really indicates that he's become a bigger power threat. He's been kind of a mystery this off season, though. Again, I don't think he's gotten weaker but I'm not ready to suggest he'll be more of a power hitter yet.

I mean he was already a power hitter. He had double digit home runs as a freshman. But I see your point. I also don’t know that he’ll be MORE of a power hitter but at the same time I could see him hitting 15+ dingers next year.

Gio, if like before is inconsistent, then id rather put someone at leadoff who is a better hitter, even if its doughty

Id hardly call mathis a loss at shortstop, more of a loss at 3rd

I don't think the problem with Gio hitting is mechanical but rather his mental approach. It's time for him to get that figured out and blossom. I think he will lead off and maybe lead the team in batting average.

He won't by any stretch of the imagination, he can still draw walks and beat balls into the ground. He was over swinging had K per 3 at bats and still lead LSU in avg even though with less at bats...weird stat line.

Adam, I apologize for borrowing your great thread.

I didn't want to start a new thread and figured this thread would be getting most of the "baseball" clicks for a few days so... (SIAP)

Mainieri said Thompson struggled at 3B in the fall and was moved back to his natural position of SS. Arnold was getting the start at SS in the fall because of his bat. I noticed he did have 3 or 4 of the top 10 exit velocities in the fall.

Cranford on the other hand, not only had a perfect glove in games last year but I didn't see him have any errors in practice. I could see a scenario with Cranford at SS and Arnold at 3B.

Paul Mainieri says Antoine Duplantis, Mikie Mahtook, Zack Hess and Aaron Nola stopped by practice the other day to see Dylan Crews.

Thanks Russian.

And I agree, I just don't see why you would put Arnold at SS if you can put him at 3B.

Pretty impressive group to come see a freshman! Speaking of Mahtook, is he done with pro ball? I don’t he’s been picked up by anyone

1 Florida (16-1) - accurate
3 Vanderbilt (13-5) - too high
5 Mississippi (16-1) - accurate
7 Mississippi State (12-4) - too high
8 Arkansas (11-5) - slightly too high
9 LSU (12-5) - probably accurate
16 Tennessee (15-2) - too low
20 South Carolina (12-4) - too high
24 Georgia (14-4) - too high

There is an article from Wilson Alexander talking about guys training at different positions as a COVID precaution. Dylan Crews is the emergency catcher.

When he and Drew Romo were on team USA together, they were the top two catchers. Crews is thought to have high level potential behind the plate according to scouts but never wanted to play back there full time.
