In the pros think

Billy Hamilton - 80 speed
Giancarlo Stanton - 80 power
Aroldis Chapman - 80 fastball

The best one I can describe for college

Kris Bryant - 80 power (He hit 31 HR's in 2013 with the new bats introduced right before 2012)

Practice is at 1:00 today, with a scrimmage at 3:30. Tomorrow's practice is also at 1:00, and a scrimmage at 3:00. All of it is open and free at the Box.

I'm thinking of heading down. Is there usually a decent turnout or just a few people here and there?

The weekend crowds are more active, there will be 50-100 people who come and go typically.

I may bring the little one out there to watch. Thank you..

ETA: Can I get to the playgrounds if need be? He's only 2, so he'll more than likely lose interest pretty quick...

True. I was asking about ceiling though but you're right that's too lofty a standard to even speculate on.

Lange is pitching this evening as well. I heard rumored at yesterday's practice that we might be seeing Papi play short. I fricking hope that wasn't a joke

Good stuff, Adam! How many scrimmages this spring have you been to? Is papierski hitting strictly right handed?

Center Field: Antoine Duplantis will simply shift over to center field and fill the void left by Jake Fraley's departure. Let me preface by saying Duplantis is the best outfielder on this team and LSU will once again be spoiled by superb play at the position in the upcoming season. Originating from a track family Antoine is much of the same, his footwork is phenomenal he has the ability to regain tracking on balls he initially misreads off the bat. Antoine is one of the more poised hitters at the plate, he likes to make the pitcher work where he drew the second highest walk total only behind now departed Jake Fraley. His slap hitting approach mimics Mark Laird where he rarely pulls the ball, this approach greatly cuts down on strikeouts and bad plate appearances as seen by his superb walk to strikeout ratio. Duplantis has arguably the best straight line speed from home to first outside of Zach Watson where he will be counted on to do more on the base paths. He’s a guy I legitimately think can steal 20-25 bases during a full season with room for more. Glove is one of the best on the team, his job is to track down fly balls and cut off balls in the gaps and he does this, his arm needs to continue to get stronger as its slightly below average for the position.

Zach Watson who will be backing up Duplantis in centerfield is an exceptional speedster who will one day become another one of LSU’s long line of superb defensive outfielders. Even though I don’t think Watson cracks the lineup this year expect to see Zach plugged in as a pinch runner this year in late game situations.

And Breaux is likely AD's backup if something were to happen...

Can we get our OF (and our pitchers for that matter) on a weighted ball program? I'm kind of tired of seeing lolly pops coming into the MIF on relays.

Anecdote on weighted ball program unrelated to LSU: Arizona St had a fall scrimmage against Arizona Western CC, who has their pitchers on weighted ball programs. Arizona Western just fricking dominated them. ASU couldn't handle the velo they were seeing and it made them look foolish. Also AWCC was hitting with wooden bats and stroking ASU pitchers.

JUCOs play competitive fall games though and D1 doesn't, so that probably played into it a bit.

Anecdote courtesy of Eric Longenhagen on the Fan Graphs Audio podcast and relayed to the best of my faulty recollection.

Correct, he's the fourth outfielder...

We may disagree here. The programs have to be run very tightly and they don't work well for certain types of mechanics. I think resistance training (bands) can be implemented more safely with less chance of injury. I know there are studies out there are proving the weighted ball training to have success, but I don't think it's worth the risk.
