quote:Then there is nothing to it. You can't listen to the supposed inside guys on this board. They don't know. The only place the search seems tumultuous is on this board. That's because all of these "insiders" and media dorks throw all sorts of unfounded crap against the wall so that when one of their 5 predictions comes true they can claim to have "nailed it."
Key word is "seems". I don't know this. Relax

Has anyone thought that O’Connor from UVA might be the target. He did coach with CPM at Notre Dame before going to Virginia. Has won a title there with several trips to the CWS.
I’m not saying he wouldn’t be a credible candidate but the fact that he coached with Paul Mainieri should have absolutely no bearing on his candidacy.
Who gives a shite whether the next baseball coach at LSU coached with PM or not?

I don’t think its good form to announce the next coach while the current coach remains in charge. If it was a coach from the current staff, that would be different, but that isn’t the case with LSU.

Every consensus is general. It is what "consensus" means. Saying "general consensus" is like saying "multi-person crowd".

I dont get the Osullivan hate either.
It’s mostly from the Bianco fan boys who have severe friction burns from all the beating off they have been doing just thinking about his underwhelming arse coming to LSU

It seems like a lot more people than that.

it’s McDonnell why hasn’t it been announced?
Bc if they "have" him already, they don't have to announce shite.
They can wait so the focus stays on the team and paul

Very easy to understand why. Louisiana's entire state and political network is ran on the good ole boys network. That's how LSU's admin operates and Bianco is the epitome of the good ole boys network. It's not what you do but who you know in Louisiana and that's why this state always has terrible leaders.

I think with the talent pool available and the brand of LSU baseball behind him, he’d build a monster here based on what he has been able to do at Louisville.
McDonnel is 2021's Paul Mainierie, with a shite ton more CWS appearances. I believe Mainierie only went once at ND. But when he got to LSU he was there 2 of his first 3 years with a title in his 3rd year.
It's not crazy to think that what McDonnell's done at Louisville indicates he could be a monster coach at LSU, with the resources, recruiting brand, and massive home fan support that will also travel in large numbers anywhere a winning tiger baseball team goes.
Only time will tell if worrying more about PR than winning will pan out.

just be thankful that Woodward is running this and not Alleva. It would have been Bianco last week. Lazy and low budget.

Hmmm - who is the CRT, America is racist, white hater that has at least a break even record in community college? Fits the LSU Woke agenda ...

If it’s McDonnell why hasn’t it been announced? Louisville’s season is over. I don’t get it if they’re waiting for LSU’s season to be over. Everyone knows Paul is retiring and I think getting it announced would help the team by taking away the uncertainty. Thus, I think it is not going to be McDonnell. However, I sincerely hope I’m wrong because I want McDonnell.
Makes complete sense to me, at least, that they wait until LSU's season is over. The retirement announcement timing was perfect - it likely helped secure our bid and elevated the team's motivation. You let the run end then look to the future.

Well let’s see, maybe because LSU is still playing in a super regional and it could potentially be a giant distraction to the entire team. Thank god you don’t run things

Nobody knows what SW has in mind,he is incharge of this
All you can do is look at his past history. That history, even most recently with the Kim Mulkey hire, is that Woodward's preference is to target a significantly accomplished coach and pay them whatever is necessary to entice them to leave the good job they have at the moment.
Vitello doesn't fit that mold at all. He's done a good job at UT, but thus far has no big skins on the wall. Godwin is kind of in the same boat. He's done a good job at ECU but still has no CWS appearances.
McDonnell is really the only guy of those three that more fits the type of HC Woodward has hired in the past. He has a long history of success (including five CWS appearances). I think that is why you heard (at various points) guys like O'Sullivan and Casey were the main targets. They aren't guys with "potential". They are guys who are proven.
Many like the "young" up and comer because they envision that guy having tremendous success for a long time. But that comes with uncertainty because until they have that success no one knows if they are capable of it. It's all POTENTIAL. Other guys may be older, but you don't have to hope they can get you were you want to go. They've already proven they can.
I'm not saying either approach is wrong. It just appears clear LSU's AD strongly prefers the accomplished vet as opposed to the young guy with potential.

I tend to think that the uncertainty and speculation about who is going to be the future coach is a bigger distraction for the team.
Posted on 6/11/21 at 1:01 pm to Rtowntiger
If we use the “he looks like a baw” variable then its gotta be Godwin.

they want to wait till season is over
If Vandy beats ECU then Godwin is more immediately approachable in both contract and money .... and Vandy has an advantage being private with more scholarships and who would want to leave that advantage
I think Godwin's, being a protege' of Paul, chances are pretty good unless ECU should beat Vandy and go to CWS then ECU will throw all kinds of money at him but SW would too

It’s just crazy to me that it seems the AD and the BoS seem to be working the opposite way. Why does it seem the powers that be and the fan base are so far out of sync? The rant is never wrong....don’t they know this.
Because Woodward is playing ya'll like a fiddle
