He was def out. The throw beat the runner by a step. Unless the runner just completely dodges the tag altogether, as an ump you are trained to call that an out.

Agree with this. Definitely a close call at second that could have gone either way, but the struggles with this team are not a result of the umps.
Unlike most people, I still think this team has enough talent to accomplish any goal they have, but at the moment there is a team wide catastrophe syndrome that seems to be waiting for something bad to happen. When it inevitably happens, the team deflates. That being said, it's the 3rd inning. Far from over.
