LSU's dangerous dilemma
Calling LSU a mess would be an insult of messes everywhere. The Tigers didn't seem to have any interest in defending the 2019 national title, lost quarterback Myles Brennan early in the season, were placed on probation and now are dealing with a Title IX issue that has engulfed the entire athletic department. Not all of that is coach Ed Orgeron's fault, of course. But he's the man charged with not only producing a championship-caliber team in 2021, but doing so without any serious off-the-field issues developing.
This season for LSU feels like Gene Chizik's 2012 season at Auburn. LSU is two years removed from a remarkable run to the national title, had a mediocre season the following year and is dealing with massive problems hanging over the program as a whole. Chizik went 3-9 and got fired in 2012, and it's likely that a similar performance could result in Orgeron receiving a pink slip in December.
There is talent and hope in Baton Rouge, though. Brennan was quietly solid before getting injured, there are talented skill players all over the place and cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. will be the centerpiece of a defense headed up by Daronte Jones. There's obviously a concern with Jones since he hasn't been a coordinator at the FBS level -- but hey, at least he's not Bo Pelini. It's addition by subtraction at the very least.
It's a pivot year for the Tigers. Which way will they go? It'll be fascinating to track as spring rolls along.

Is this breaking news or does it apply to just O?
I think 90% of coaches in the P5 would lose their jobs if they go 3-9 in year 5.

On what planet does LSU go 3-9
LSU went 5-5 with an all SEC schedule with their worst defense in program history
Last year was literally rock bottom for this program at its current talent level.

Agree with most except the distraction of Title IX.
LSU FB gives ZERO fricks about those reports. Won't be a distraction especially since the AD is on the record saying there won't be anymore disciplinary actions taken.
Title IX will mean a few more manadatory trainings for players to attend but that is about it

What's he supposed to do? Go back in time and undo what happened 8 years ago?

Is he even saying anything?
Is journalism just asking questions and if it's right you can take a victory lap, but if it's wrong you can say "we were just asking the question"
This seems like just being lazy at your job

Barrett Sallee is a Bama homer and bangs on LSU every day of every year. Nothing to see here...

I’ve never been a fan of Orgeron, but this is a stupid comparison. They went 0-8 in the SEC
3-9 isn’t even CLOSE to 5-5 when you factor in an all conference schedule.
To me, 5-5 = 4-4. 7-5 with a loss to Texas, 8-4 with a win against Texas. The same record LSU had in 2008, following a national championship

what's new?
Here's his LSU 2019 prediction
He also predicted LSU would finish 3rd in the west behind Alabama and A&M, and said Alabama and Georgia would both go undefeated and Alabama would beat Georgia in the CFP title game.
AND he predicted, when the matchup was set, that Clemson would beat LSU in the title.
He does not like LSU.
Here's his LSU 2019 prediction
quote:
LSU: Yes, LSU went to the Fiesta Bowl last season. Despite that, the coaching staff has felt the need to sell the idea of a more dynamic offense all offseason. Pardon my cynicism, but I'll believe it when I see it. I have doubts about Joe Burrow taking another step and becoming the difference maker that he will need to be in order for LSU to become an actual national title contender. Until then, the Tigers are a nice team that'll get nine or 10 wins and be on the outside looking in. -- Barrett Sallee

Last year was disappointing, but take away the losses to Mizzou and State we performed about where we should have. O did a good job on the back half. He has had a good off season.
UCLA will get the shite kicked out of them.

It was the "pink slip" he received last summer that started his downfall imo.

lol this dude trolls y’all every year. Hook line sinker with LSU fans

Sallee is irrelevant. He picked Clemson to beat LSU in the natty because “Defense wins championships”

Quietly solid? Brennan threw for the most yards of any LSU QB ever in his first 3 starts. Yeah, that's pretty solid and damn impressive with potential ALL SEC numbers.

Funny thing is if we play Mizzou and Miss st. at the end of last season we beat them. It was just a shitshow at the beginning with covid and the divas on the team. The real players stayed and showed what they can do. Great part is most will be back this season.

Sallee is a troll but that's not a haterade take. It's entirely reasonable
