By what measure are they the second best team in the land?
If it's their ranking, do they become third best team overnight if the votes change their mind next week.
If it's the quality of their loss to now undefeated LSU, they are hitching their wagon to LSU's star and not to their performance.

Only reason that Bama is considered in the equation is that they'be not lost on the final day like Michigan. If an undefeated Bama loses on the final day and OSU wins, OSU is in.

Just because you bitch doesn't make your team any better. If LSU loses and gets voted out of top spot or even the top two, it's the way the system is setup. You are no longer undefeated and go with the ranking you get.

This year the bottom of the SEC was significantly worse than the top, moreso than any year I can ever remember...the bottom 6 teams had a combined ZERO wins over the top 5 teams (the 6th team - Auburn - beat the 5th team - SC - for the only loss by any of the top 5 not to each other).

Essentially, to be undefeated in SEC play this year you had to

1. Be one of the top 5 teams in the league,

and

2. Beat the other top 5 teams that you play.

Wow, Bama went 1-1 in its two games against top 5 SEC teams....time to start getting ring sizes!!!!!

That's correct. Losers of that game still want a shot at the game.

In 2007, LSU was bumped up to 2 because they deserved a shot at the title compared to teams 2-6 in the previous weeks poll.

I am not sure how you seperate Stanford, OSU and Bama if all finish with 1 loss. They all have reasons why they could be considered number 2.

You are correct here. Bama resume is based on their loss to LSU. If other numbers are considered OSU can make a case if they beat OU.

Every game does matter. We lost to LSU, the #1 team, in OT.

If Bama gets to play for all the marbles against the SEC champ, then the Nov. 5th game did not matter. How has Bama been penalized for that loss?

Oh, and I'm not the slightest bit scared of Bama. If you can't beat us at your house, you can't beat us in NO. It's just patently unfair to have to beat someone from your own conference twice, and I promise you you'd feel the same way if the roles were reversed.

I'll type this as many times as necessary for it to get through:

The rules in place before the season started, the rules everybody was playing under, CLEARLY and UNAMBIGUOUSLY stated: The participants of the BCS Championship Game will be the teams ranked #1 and #2 in the final BCS poll.

If it's LSU-Bama, that's the game. If we're #1 we play #2, if we're #2, we play #1, period. If it's Bama you want me to say it's not fair? Of course it's not fair.

There's no caveat that it will be #1 versus #2 only if it's "fair".

I promise you this.. If rolls were reversed, BAMA would launch a national campaign against the rematch...

Houston has not lost, maybe they deserve a shot if they win out.

Does your opinion change if voters put Okie St #2? Then, by definition, Okie St is #2. We'll play whoever we're told, but I'm not convinced Alabama deserves to be #2 if OSU wins out -- OSU will have a conference title (which matters) and will have more quality wins (a lot more).

And the BCS has one purpose, really -- to preserve the bowl system. It gives us a title match because that was the best way to keep us plebes from whining too much. But, above all else, the BCS is about preserving the bowl system. They have to crown an undisputed champ to do that, which by the way, they do not have a 100% record at. So they've failed in that regard.

Oh yeah you read it. OK.. it's cool to say tl;dr.

Regarding 'scared'. I don't play the game. What I do does not affect the result of the game.

I enjoy watching LSU games. I like it even better when they win.

I actually thought of this scenario before Nov5 and also thought it unfair. I do agree with you but the commissioners did consider this scenario. They didn't ignore it. A proposal was put before the BCS governing committee to not have 2 teams from the same conference. But it was decided against.

By the way, we don't feel that the Superdome is your turf. We've played there almost as much as you have. We'll have just as many fans as you do. Its a little longer drive for most of the fans but not for the team. They fly in. We've won more NC games there and more Sugar Bowls there than you have. We've played in the Superdome for the Sugarbowl 7 times. LSU 5 times.

If you consider history the Superdome is OUR HOUSE.

I'm sure there would be many fans acting just like LSU fans are acting now. Personally I came out saying we didn't deserve a rematch. If we get put in the game, we'll play it.

By national campaign, would that be like the LSU poster here who has summarized Bama's and OSU's stats for this year and is sending the spreadsheet to all Harris voters?

There you go! thinking wrong again.

How did you do when you played in Superdome last?

And you may still get to play in the Superdome for Sugarbowl.
