The only reason I can think of for Kelly not retaining him is that he has a DC lined up who is bringing in his own guy. Guy is a top position coach.

Yea but there’s a difference between not being retained vs. taking a promotion. If we chose to let Baker and Raymond walk without speaking to them, I don’t understand that.

If he is taking a promotion, then good for him.

If that’s the case I wish they reported that he’s taking a DC job instead of the title of his not being retained. Not a good look

Amazing that a head coach who has always been successful and has many years of doing it, would hire somebody that a friend of a friend of Wrucket16 said was bad. C’mon Kelly, how can you be so clueless

Posted by Cs on 12/8/21 at 6:58 pm Kerry Cooks oversaw some of the worst secondaries in the country while at Oklahoma. Kerry Cooks was a DB coach at Oklahoma from 2015-2018. Oklahoma passing yards allowed during that time: 2015: 202 YPG 2016: 279 YPG (10th worst in the country) 2017: 241 YPG 2018: 291 YPG (2nd worst in the country) quote: In the days following Oklahoma’s Orange Bowl loss to Alabama, Riley reshaped his defensive staff, hiring Alex Grinch as coordinator/safeties coach and Roy Manning as cornerbacks coach. In Cooks’ final three seasons — 2016-18 — OU ranked 111th, 87th and 129th, respectively, in the FBS in pass defense. The 2018 ranking was last nationally, and that squad intercepted only six passes.

Any questions?

Baker was recruiting up until signing day, so I don’t think that’s the case at all, especially if he passed on a potential job while remaining here. If he’s being told he won’t be retained, there’s likely one reason for it- a new DC who either covers LBs himself or who has a guy who he prefers to be his LB coach.

My point is really this- let’s all just fricking wait. No one knows anything yet. All of the proclamations either way are just noise. Baker has been rumored to be in the running for a couple of DC jobs. We are rumored to be looking at a DC or two who specialize in LBs. Just let it play out.

I'm ok with all the coaches being let go as long as the replacements are upgrades.

I would think that Frank Wilson and or another capable recruiter on the staff will be pursuing Perkins, so LSU still has a shot.

Everyone wanted a high profile coach. Well, those guys get to pick their own staff. Comes with the territory.

Regardless, you don’t keep coaches for a recruit. That’s short sighted as hell

Everyone needs to calm the hell down and have some faith in BK. The man has been extremely successful everywhere he’s coached. He will build a staff that will help our program be successful.

You’re saying reserve judgement til the staff is together & we get to see the product of their work. Fair enough.

I’m just wondering (the same as I was with Raymond) how many people are out there that might be considered upgrades.

You like the kerry cooks hire?

If he is so good why didn't kelly hire him at notre dame when joseph left for texas?

He passed him right over and let him stay an analyst. It's a shitty hire.

He needed a quick hire to help recruit so he picked cooks.

Nothing Kelly has done so far indicates he makes quick decisions for short term benefits.

I like how you skipped the first part.

How do you know that? He hired him immediately after raymond left .

Pretty damn quick.

Pretty sure Cooks was hired before Raymond was let go

Just like Frank was hired before Faulk was not retained.
