Huge improvement on offense The defense seriously regressed

Yep. I think overall there was improvement. If I had to guess, 2023 LSU would be a 5-10pt favorite over 2022 LSU. Even with the atrocious defense, we were a better team overall this year than last year, even though the final record was the same.

Problem this year was the 4 toughest games being all on the road and losing 3 of them, one of which we should have won (OleMiss)

This year “felt” to me like a 10-2 Top10 team that dropped a game it should have won to finish 9-3.

Last year “felt” like an 8-4 Top25 team that won a game or 2 it probably shouldn’t have to finish 9-3

Next year the expectation should be making the playoffs, no excuse with the 12-team playoffs now announced.
This should be the expectation every single year moving forward. Barring a huge year and mass exodus there is no reason LSU shouldn't be a top 12 team every single year.

A handful of things to complain about, but overall, BK off to a potential 20-7 start and already having Heisman and Biletnikoff contenders/winners is close to all you can ask for.

We aren't paying 10 mil to not win 10 games in year 3. If that isn't the expectation, that's a you problem. If we aren't a top 12 team next year, that's a big fricking red flag.

1. I doubt "YOU" are paying any more than .00000001% of that $10M per year...no matter how may t-shirts you buy.

2. So even with the loss of the best QB in the nation, along with two of the best WRs in the nation that largely contributed to engineering the best offense in the nation LSU is supposed to exceed that level simply because it is "year 3"? That's a very tall order indeed.

The reality is THIS was the season to win 10+ games. THIS was the season where the pieces were in place to make a CFP run. And frankly, they would have but for the absolutely atrocious effort of the defensive staff. Even if LSU has a defense roughly as good as Syracuse's defense they are (at least) 11-1 getting ready to play UGA on Saturday for a spot in the CFP.

Next year though, many of the favorable variables in place this year won't be there next season. So just blinding EXPECTING 10+ wins simply because it is year 3 is foolish. Expecting 10+ wins this year wasn't foolish. You judge expectations year to year based upon the known variables at the time. Not some artificial linear timeline.

Always know I'm about to get a really in depth response when it starts with stupidity like this.

And you didn't disappoint.

The man himself said we were a year away. I think he knows more than you. Is he or is he not here to win championships? Is expecting to be in the top 12 at the end of year 3 really some crazy outlandish expectation given our resources and talent pool? That is mostly rhetorical btw

With a 12 team playoff we should be in the mix. Even with our defense this year we'd be close. It all comes down to key injuries. Our schedule next year is not cake walk. Ole Miss, Bama, and OU are all good teams. We'll need to outscore USC and UCLA. South Carolina and Florida are teams that can beat you if you have a bad night.

I still think as a program we should be in the 12 team playoff, but that's a tough slate. Winning 10 games is extremely hard to do.

This is true every year, and isn't much of an excuse.

Even a semi-competent defense can stop that gimmicky offense.

Pump the brakes a bit on this. We will lose basically a generational QB along with 2 1st round WR's. The defense will get better but enough to make a serious difference is highly doubtful.

Bk himself said we were a year away. Why should we walk that expectation back, and how many more years do we keep waiting for him to deliver on what he was hired to do?

We aren't competing for championships yet. But with the new 12 team playoff we will be very soon.

He inherited a complete dumpster fire.

Year 1: 9-3 SEC west champ and beat Bama

Year 2: 9-3 and possible Heisman winner.

This is an amazing first 2 years.

9 win seasons should never be celebrated at LSU

I assume you loved Les Miles since he is the only LSU coach to win more than 9 regular season games multiple times.

It was not a successful season when you look at the caliber of the team and the expectations that were set. You have a Heisman caliber player that likely won’t win the award because of how shitty we played on defense.

The caliber of a few players were off the charts. The caliber of the team as a whole was not. No one should have had reasonable expectations of this team making the playoffs, not with 2/3 of the defense being first year portal players.

As for missing expectations, I guess you could look at the fact we had two SEC quality defensive starters that have been here since signing and were expected to anchor the defense. One was overrated/still recovering, and the other didn't perform as expected for numerous reasons. That has to change in both quantity of signees and quality of their production.

How far do you think LSU would have gotten if they made it to the 12 team playoff this year?

Would have given up 600 yards to whoever we played in round one and lost 45-42 or something like that.

Personally I love the fact that we are getting a 12 team playoff. More football with the possibility of a home playoff game in December at Tiger Stadium is wild.
It will make losing a game or two less devastating. After you lose that second one, it’s pretty much over in the current format.

Not far, but that’s not the point. The 7-12 are all going to mostly get blown out.

The 3 and 4 teams have regularly been blown out.

Even though the regular season record is the same as year 1, I like that our team was better this year by pretty much all the advanced metrics.

10th in SP+ and 7th in FEI is pretty good for year 2. Time to take the next step and push into the top 5.
Yet he fielded the WORST defensive team in our lifetime but he was good???? make it make sense...PLEASE!! Our phenominal QB may miss out on a heisman trophy because of the defense and you support BK???

I worry next year May seem like a disappointment because of the schedule.

LSU played a ridiculous schedule this year. The defense was atrocious and it is hard to comprehend if it should have been better or not in year 2.

If you look at the current rankings, LSU played 4 teams in the top 11 on the road.
