Make a public offer to someone. Wait a week. If someone else starts courting him, pull the offer. If nobody else wants him, we have our guy.

So your basing your opinion off of 100% hearsay. How is exploring other options and making a decision not conducting a "real search"? Because you didn't like the end result of hiring Orgeron?

walking away from the negotiating table when things started to look tough, then essentially proclaiming LSU to be a second rate program while somehow being incredibly proud of it.

So telling Herman, I'm not waiting on you to go sleep with another school and see if you like them better than us is declaring LSU a second rate program? Do you just make shite up as you go along?

Kirk Bohls of the Austin American Stateman reported Saturday that LSU balked at Herman's $6 million salary demand.

You're right. I was factually incorrect. The annual salary that was reported would be less than Saban and Harbough and more than everyone else in the country.

You on the other hand, made up everything in your response.

He was on my back porch last night and told me he didn't want it. Drank all my Envie.

This is an exact description of Orgeron.

So now we're giving Ensminger the credit for "turning the season around".

Tell me about all of the QBs that Ensminger has developed? I'll sit and wait. Also, tell me about all of the new offensive schemes that he has helped implement? How many times has he implemented the spread at a school?

I don't understand the point you are making because I agree with you that Ensminger has done a good job as OC. I just think we need a bigger name than Ensminger more for recruiting purposes than anything else. I get it that you preferred Herman over coach O, I did as well, unfortunately he wasn't going to come here. But put Orgerons CEO skills along with Aranda and a bigger name than Ensminger OC and that would make a pretty formidable coaching staff. The more I think about it the more I like this hire. Plenty of good OC's out there we can get with the type money we have for the hire.

Ross Dellenger, who gets his info directly from the athletic department, reported that a search wasn't taking place until the loss to Florida.

No, stating that you are unwilling to get in a bidding war and would just prefer to hire someone that wants to be here declares LSU a weak, second rate program. Perhaps it isn't, and is only led by a weak, second rate administrator.

I know ppl are gonna say wtf but I want charlie Weiss if there's a pro type system that's capable of beating bama this is the one. He took ND to 2 BCS bowls and ran the pats offense when it won 3 Super Bowls. This is the kind of OC we need.

Yes, that's the point and why most rational people believe the entire process was a farce. I hope O does well. I think he will continue to bring in talent and don't think the program will crash. I would have preferred him to get the job because he was the best available to us, and not because he was the easiest to hire.

Offensively? Yes. He was promoted to coordinator after a 2-2 start and this is a thread about OCs. I'm not sure why that is a difficult concept to grasp.

I can't point to anything in his past that would indicate he should get the job going forward. But it's obvious he learned from his mistakes based on his interim performance, and he is a Tiger that wants to be here.

Now that we're squared away on that. Maybe you can tell us what part of O's resume proves he deserves a job at this level without the benefit of a thorough search?

O positioned it as Ensminger was my best option in the situation I inherited and we lost to Bama by 10 and should've beaten UF. Let me bring in my guy and I'll have us competing for the west.

So this whole thing is based off O throwing Ensminger under the bus?

Awesome

Tyson Helton to me is a good possibility if Kiffin says no. O coached with Clay Helton at SC so O has a connection to Tyson. Plus, SC runs a hybrid pro style spread which O prefers.

Wow you're usually one of the most reasonable posters on this site, but you're way off on this issue.

Of course he didn't throw him under the bus.

Ensminger was highly effective against poor defenses but struggled mightily against good ones.

That is no different than what we had under Miles.

O didn't throw him under the bus and it's common knowledge that with Steve Ensminger you don't have an elite OC, which is what elite programs have EVEN when they have elite head coaches.

* see Urban Meyer having Herman as his OC the last time he won a title.

I get it. I don't want Ensminger. But all the justifications for O fit Ensminger just as well.

Hell Ensminger set offensive records while interim OC. I just don't know how O could look Ensminger in the face and tell him he didn't do enough.

I've heard that Ensminger doesn't want the job. He just stepped up for the season.

I'm not justifying O. I was salty as a MF when the announcement was made.

But O and Emsninger have known each other for years.

I can easily envision O sitting down with him and saying Steve you'd did an amazing job against the likes of Mizzou, Ole Miss and A&M.

But we both know that long term this isn't the answer.

It's not like he's getting rid of Ensminger.

Can we find the guy who recruited and developed all those QB's at Purdue?

This is where I disagree as well.

The justifications for O (and they ARE justifications) are many

- paying him less so can afford rock star coordinators
- All we were missing under Miles was QB development and O can bring in Kiffin or someone else who can do it
- We can focus recruiting the trenches and LBs more than ever
- whatever else was in the binder

The HC has more leeway and more resources to affect change OR to sell Alleva that he can affect change.

How can you justify 0 points against Bama or that Ensminger has proven that he can be elite if given the chance when he struggled @ home against the only 2 good D's he faced?
