LSU was a major part in giving him this future opportunity. A matter of respect and gratitude ought to be on the radar toward his school and warrior brothers.
totally agree and he could take a lesson from DW. Most people will say I'm lying...but if it was me...I'd play the bowl.

quote:No? It's actually the opposite. Besides the playoffs, Bowl Season is nothing more than one big participation trophy for teams that weren't good enough to make it. That's why I see no reason for Greedy to play in it if he doesn't want to. But congrats LSU! Because you managed to be 5th best in your conference, you get to go to a big boy bowl.
You're one of those douche bags who believes in participation trophies amirite?

Playing in a bowl game in front of millions on New year's day is now worthless? Eh?
What world am I living where these ideas are mainstream?

Of course the bowl game isn't meaningless to LSU. It's a great exhibition match up and nice consolation prize for not making it to one of the two real bowl games(the playoffs). It will have a lot of exposure and LSU is going to make millions of dollars. This will also allow some of the younger players to gain some valuable experience. All of that is valuable.
At the same time this bowl game is meaningless to Greedy from a financial standpoint, but as I just explained that doesn't make the whole game meaningless.

I'm not mad about his decision but I think it is an interesting discussion to involve the playoffs should we ever get into them, or for high round prospects playing in the playoffs:
Would you support Greedy if LSU had snuck into the playoffs and he decided not to play? Assume the playoffs aren't going to help or hurt his draft status.

a playoff game or national champhionship game would be as well. He could still get hurt and lose his draft status in one of these just as easily.

I see this no different than a non-playoff NFL player sitting out the Pro-bowl because it's a contract year. Or a top 5 basketball player sitting out the NIT tournament.

I'd imagine that when Greedy was making his decision, he was weighing the financial risk vs the emotional reward. We both agree that there is no change in the financial risk between the Fiesta Bowl and the Playoffs/NC. I think we could also agree that there is a significant difference in the emotional reward of playing/winning the Fiesta Bowl vs playing/winning the National Championship. For me, that difference would be enough for me to play. I would hope it would be for Greedy as well, but we will never know.

He received a full scholarship to play football that most kids can afford even though they deserve it

Look. I support Greedy's decision.
But honestly, the fact he........and so fricking many of his peers...........have children to think about is a testament to the fricked up culture they were reared in.
If that dude had a catastrophic injury in 2017, you're just looking at another mom on welfare.

Is it a shitty bowl game? I’ve been hearing how great it is we got a NewYears day bowl & first time in Fiesta.

I think this might hurt his draft stock and how teams will see him.
If he is afraid of playing because of chances of getting hurt and ending his career. Does that mean he will do the same in the NFL and not put himself out there if his team is having a losing season in case he get hurt?
From an hiring perspective, I see a guy who stood to the end no matter what with a company (In this case LSU team) who's good, and another guy who is better on paper but he is afraid of getting hurt and ruining his career. That sense off signal flags to me that he might have a physical issue that is cropping up where he can't even finish out a season.
So outside looking in, who would you hired?
I like greedy and appreciate what he did but the issue would not even be up for discussion if he just played and not even give 100%. Don't bring unnecessary attention to yourself before you get drafted. He could have played like shite and blame it on Scheme or maybe just go half speed.
No one would have known.

Greedy - balls out! Add 10 'good' lbs before the combine, keep working to get even faster/quicker, and light it up. Tear it up Tiger.
PS I definitely wanted to see you play in our bowl game, we'll miss you, but I get it.

At that point why wouldn’t he just stay in school and use his free education to provide for his family?

Muh Bowl Game lmao. Had we hired a new OC and he decided to join LSU prior to his previous schools bowl no a single frick would be given, but how dare Greedy make a decision that he feels is best for himself and his family. I’m sure many on here have turned down high paying jobs or promotions lol and I’ve seen multiple guys bashing greedy reference their divorce on here in the past. How dare you quit on your kids and family.......See how stupid that sounded. #BeGreedy

It is. It's just a game, of which people who don't play it invest way to much into, both monetarily and emotionally.
