re: Arkansas win embarrassing for LSU coaching staff but hopefully a wake up call

Plus Glen Logan was out on the D-line. A consistent pass rush would have helped also. If Stingley would have played, I agree, we would have won that game....

Pelini's game plan for MSU was disappointing.

Because that’s the story of Mike Leach’s career. He looks like he’s coaching the patriots one weekend and the bad news bears the next. Trying to figure Leach or his team out is not a battle you’re going to win, and using his team as a way to figure out whether we’re good or not is pointless
Leach's offenses have put up a lot of points and yards on a lot of good teams over the years. Occasionally he'll catch a good team off guard and beat them, but he never seems to win games that matter late in the season. Washington vs Washington St. is the biggest game of the year for both teams and Chris Petersen owned Mike Leach every year they played.
Most coaches that have been around for a while run a variation of the same plays every year but looks and other variables are constantly changed. Analyzing player tendencies also goes into to film studies as well. Being able to recognize those things on the field when it's in front of you isn't always easy for some young players to do right away and i think a lot of the new guys on defense struggled with that a bit

quote:But once again, even if THESE players made State vs LSU then why weren't they successful against lowly Arkansas? BTW, Arkansas didn't have Stingley either.
People keep repeating this and it is true, there's plenty of film of his offense. There wasn't however film of the players at MSU in his offense. That does make a difference. The players can make the system sometimes, better at least, because of their physical abilities. Kylin Hill, the wrs being more speedy and athletic than we had seen previously. All plays into things when scouting is concerned. We trusted our CBs to be better physically and the weren't. Most schools know that beforehand. It's still a mistake not to adjust but I see it moreso of the original game plan being believing in our guys. Stingley changed things unexpectedly.

Not embarrassing. Just a better lesson.

I’m not saying it isn’t but 1. Morris and staff were the worst ever. So incompetent that we may never see the likes of that terrible again. 2. Franks is a senior who learned under Mullen can make all the throws and is athletic. And he’s seen a ton of action n sec. 3. Odom was a HR hire at Dc. So the loss to MSU is bad. But Arky isn’t as easy of an out as ppl think imo.

Well I guess we’ll just lose out. The sky is actually falling, you guys.
Agreed; the Negatigers are right again! We didn't really win a title last year, nor did we just beat Vandy. That was what we WANTED to see- not what actually happened. We actually finished 9-4 with a nice Texas Bowl Title, and lost at Vandy 24-17 giving up 475 in the air. It's just that the Positiger in us won't accept facts.
Or something like that.
Anyway, I said "we" a couple of times because that usually triggers them to point out that I didn't actually play in the game, and therefore committed stolen football glory.
On to game 3- wherever it may be.

There is 20+ years of film showing Leach's offense. He's been running the same plays since KY in 1998
You can't give freshmen dbs experience by looking at game film.

"If we played zone, it would have been worse, not better."
Well, I sure would have hated to see worse. I guess instead of an SEC record, we could have give up an NCAA record.

It was the worst performance ever by an SEC passing D so it literally could not have been worse.
Pelini needs to line us up in a competitive defense no matter who the opponent is.

This. Also K. Hill went out after his first carry with a concussion. If he doesn't get hurt even with Odom's gameplan we still probably lose by a couple of touchdowns.
Also Costello had a really bad game compared to what he looked like against you guys.
If Pelini can adjust and learn from that loss you guys should be fine. Air raid coming up against a green secondary is bad news even if they are talented.

quote:You do not know what you're talking about. This is totally on the DC's head for not making a single adjustment the whole game. Aranda wasn't always great but he was versatile on defense and made adjustments to what the offense was doing. If Peleni doesn't get his head out of his arse and scheme his defense based on what the offense is trying to do, he needs to be shown the door.

When can we fire Pellini?
Posted on 10/6/20 at 4:57 pm to TheHat7
I agree that Arkansas is clearly improved, but they controlled MSU from start to finish. I don't mind losing if we did everything in our power to win, but I don't feel like we did. MSU showed their hand early and we didn't make any adjustments to slow them down. I feel like we got outcoached because Pelini refused to make adjustments, but doing things his way is the way he's always done it and that the reason I'm very concerned moving forward.

I agree with you ,but after that decision( not to adjust ) Bo Pellini’s service’s will be no longer needed in Baton Rouge .
Posted on 10/7/20 at 7:59 am to sec13rowBBseat28
you are actually saying that you hate it when coaches wont let you run the team ,I hate any fan trying to run the team. It was fans like you who helped keep les from winnning a couple more natties . Negativity is the biggest destroyer of recruiting !

We will see. I think Trask is the best QB in the SEC. It will be a real test for the LSU D.

Pelini, in his previous stay at LSU always sucked against passing teams PERIOD.
Nothing seems to have changed.
Florida will tell the tale.
His overall numbers have been good because most LSU teams did not pass that much back then.
