Arkansas is an important barometer game

By way of full disclosure, I was not a fan of the Orgeron hire. I wanted a proven head coach. But once it was done, I certainly hoped to be proven wrong.
The three-headed coaching experiment appeared doomed after the Mississippi State and Troy losses. LSU looked poorly coached and rumors of a rift between Orgeron and Canada suggested things would get worse before they got better.
Somehow things got turned around, starting with a narrow win at Florida. Wins against Ole Miss and Auburn added to the hope, a hope tempered by the fact that after Florida imploded, Auburn seemed to be our only quality win, and it was a bit of a miracle comeback. Were we now a well coached team, or just lucky to play some bad teams this year?
Then came the Bama game. While not happy with a two touchdown loss, in fairness to Orgeron I left that game thinking we looked well coached and better than most SEC teams. I was worried this would be a blow-out loss, proving the gap between Bama and LSU had gotten unmanageable. The only difference I saw between Bam and LSU was at the qb position and that is fixable.
So now comes Arkansas. If LSU is truly a talented and well coached team, this should not be a close game. Good teams like Auburn and Alabama have clobbered Arkansas. They have played some weaker SEC teams close.
This is a barometer game for LSU. Are we a top tier SEC team that beats bottom tier teams handily or are we just a pack SEC team? I would love to see Orgeron succeed. Arkansas is not a good team. It will be interesting to see if Orgeron and his staff has the Tigers ready to play. I would like to see the improvement continue and believe our awful start was just growing pains.

I'm starting to wonder if our QB situation is really fixable though. It's like ground hog day when it comes to LSU QBs.

LSU should beat Arkansas but we should never overlook any team.

So how much do we have to win by to convince people? 21 points?

Which game isn't a barometer game then?

Arkansas is dogshit
If LSU struggles, I'll be cranky

None of the next 3 games is easy. If LSU plays like they are capable of they win all 3 of them. They can lose all 3 if they don't execute on game days.

Agree with most of the OP.
I was surprised at the apparent turnaround after Troy and thought the team looked well-coached (overall) at Alabama.
Time will tell with Da Coach O and, I would love to be wrong about the hire, However, I am still a bit skeptical about his ability to perform in the long run, to recruit at an elite level and, in particular, to keep the staff intact.

Whether or not these games are easy depends on the state of your program, which is kind of the point of the thread.
Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas A&M are not good teams by SEC standards. All three head coaches for these teams could be gone next year.
Alabama, Georgia and Auburn are beating these teams bad when they play them. That's what we have to find out in our last three regular season games.
Is LSU a top tier team that doesn't struggle with inferior teams? Or is LSU a middle of the pack SEC team that plays down to its competition?
These games would be easy wins for most top ten teams to play. That's why for me Arkansas is a barometer game. A good team would beat Arkansas by two or three touchdowns. South Carolina beat them by 24, Auburn beat them by 32 and Alabama beat them by 32.

30 minimum. Like to see it so bad that Brennan gets in early in the 3rd quarter.

1 point would be enough to convince me. LSU is a better team than the Hogs, but never seem to play well the week after Bama, and Arkansas' confidence seems to have been bouyed by two consecutive 1 point wins. Honestly I'm really worried bout this game.

All I've asked for was that nega-O's give O a chance. 9 games into the season now we are seeing things settle in decently. A lot of changes this year so our patience is being tried. In the end I do believe we will like the LSU football product and where it' going.

In a way the Auburn-Alabama game will be another gauge. It will be interesting to see how Auburn does compared to us.

We need to beat them convincingly enough to jump back into the rankings in both polls.

recruit he can do
keep the staff intact .... not even Saban does that ... too much money being thrown around.

No. Beat the teams you are supposed to beat without a lot of drama.

The final QB headwinds from Hurricanes Cam and Les are in their final gusts. The Les Miles era will ultimately be remembered for its unbelievably poor development of the QB position.
It serves no one any good to continue negative vibes about QB development as LSU moves into another era- unless you’re anti-LSU.

I agree. The shitty QB play is exasperating. I think the DE experiment should come to an end. IDGAF if he is a senior. Next man up!
I want to see what he (MB) can do starting.
Now the last time I said this.....Harris shite all over himself so...there's that!
