GPA is my 2nd favorite hitting stat behind OBP. It is a refinement of the OPS formula giving a higher weighted value to OBP% over SLG%.

quote:

Gross Production Average or GPA is a baseball statistic created as a refinement of On-Base Plus Slugging (OPS). GPA attempts to solve two frequently cited problems with OPS. First, OPS gives equal weight to its two components, On Base Percentage (OBP) and Slugging Percentage (SLG). In fact, OBP contributes significantly more to scoring runs than SLG does. Sabermetricians have calculated that OBP is about 80% more valuable than SLG.

Also. Anyone who says Chinea is worth more on offense over Kramer forget that Kramer can bunt or steal. So his singles can turn into "doubles" and he's got more options to be a productive out.

I'm not sure why a player with two career home runs is hitting clean up to begin with.

Make no mistake, Chinea probably has the most raw power on the team. He just doesn't have that great of plate vision.

It's a good stat for the most part, but it has it's flaws, see Hale, Conner.

Had Chinea even hit a homer yet?

Absolutely. He generally powers the ball when he makes contact. Just doesn't have a home run stroke. I would prefer a Kade Scivicque in the four hole.

I'm not even sure he has anything but singles.

If he was further in the lineup maybe he might see more fastballs?
I'm sure all the teams have the scouting report on him though.
Throw fastballs eye level and he will pound them into the dirt in front of home plate with authority.

I'll just go with what my eyeballs tell me from watching the games.

Fraley LF
Laird RF
Bregman SS
Hale 3B
Stevenson CF
Scivicque C
Foster DH
Zardon 1B
Robertson 2B

I didn't have a problem with the lineup last night but think Chinea should be lower in the lineup when he plays.

You could make an argument for Chinea at 1st and Zardon out as well, although Chi's defense leaves much to be desired. Strictly from an offensive (CPM) standpoint.

Of all the options out there, Chinea at first is the worst option IMO

I don't have a problem with Chinea being in the lineup, but not batting 4th. Move Scivicque from 6th to 4th. Scivicque has the second highest batting average on the team at (390), & the highest slugging % on the team (by a good bit), at (707). Which tells me he hits for power/extra bases & is a much bigger threat to clear the bases at cleanup than Chinea (batting 297 with a 328 slugging %).
Batting 4th instead of 6th could also amount to 1 extra "at bat" in a tight game one day & I would rather see that opportunity given to my 390 guy, not my 297 guy.

I also don't entirely disagree with people saying to start Robertson & bench Chinea. "DH" either Foster or Fraley (whichever one is not starting in LF). That would strengthen you defensively, while not costing you much in batting average (Robertson 243, Chinea 297). Only problem I have with Robertson is, for a small guy that doesn't hit for power/extra bases, it sure would be nice if he was a faster/base stealing threat like Laird & Stevenson are.
