All good. I graduated high school in 2000 and I’ve definitely counted it as part of this new century all these years. Even if google disagrees with my way of thinking.

Don’t feel bad, I played baseball at LSU a few years before the Skip era, I’m constantly reminded by my college buddies that it doesn’t count, LSU baseball demarcation line is BS, AS

I know an older guy that played when the equipment manager for the football team doubled up as their baseball head coach. ETA: Jim Smith was the manager.

He almost says it shamefully when he says he played in that era haha.

different times, I’m damn sure not ashamed of it, we weren’t bad, I was a couple of years after Miley, but when we made a coaching change while I was there the position was offered through the classified ads in the Advocate, the boss had other duties too, baseball wasn’t considered a full time gig

If you look at "modern" era as 2000 on, in football it's Bama all the way with 6 or 7 nattys while we're second with 3. In baseball, we have 3, along with Oregon State. Texas, SCe and Vandy each have 2. So I'd include Oregon State as being in the elite, too. USC baseball is almost like my alma mater, Princeton, where we've won something like 12 nat'l football championships...in the 1890s and early 1900s!

They are legit; however…

All of those titles occurred before the NCAA limited the number of scholarships a baseball program could offer. They were basically “buying” all the best players from around the entire country by offering them all full rides to a Southern California college.

Different times for sure. The gentleman I know is sort of a comedian type, so he was probably making a joke about the shameful part. He ended up doing some measure of coaching on a Joe Gibbs team in Washington. Sharp cat.

Almost all of them are pre 1980. Short answer is a resounding NO. I believe the argument of greatest baseball program is between Texas and LSU.

We have the dominant program of the last thirty years, and we should celebrate that. Imagine 30 years from now your equivalent dismisses these because it didn’t happen recently. Give them their due. They are absolutely legit.

Fun Fact: College baseball post-season pre 1995ish was wacked - they didnt even seed the teams before the College World Series, the teams that hosted were picked purely from financial bidding - AND not all regionals had the same amount of teams!

Some regionals out west only had 4 teams, and maybe a regional in the east would have 6 teams. The teams that made it out of the regionals would go to the CWS and then be seeded 1-8. No doubt some shenanigans were going on with regional matchups.
