So no analysts aren't overrated. They need to be supervised for sure. They need clear cut direction- are you doing tendencies? How about opponent scouting? How about self scouting? Maybe you're focused on individual development (e.g. checking an OTs kick slide vs. his form and upper body leverage using film). What does the coach need is the overriding question. And then that coach has to use it.

Well stated. I think what we are seeing post 2019 looks like a rudderless ship more than anything else. Maybe I'm wrong, but things look like there is a lack of cohesive direction, from recruiting to team identity.

you have analyst and you have analytics department two diff animals they are prob 40 iq points apart. Data is data and what you do with it is up the the interpreter KC chiefs HC does not buy into analytics dept and look how well he is doing most NFL teams are on board and many colleges some are outsourced to vendors but not the professional level they are in house groups of stat dorks.

Seemed like people talked about the analysts being a part of our success in 2019 and the need to have a large analyst staff to support the coordinators. Have our numbers dropped off or are they not as important as advertised?

Hell yes they are important. But they have to be worthy like can decipher trends and cause/effect issues

He has been here a while. Great addition by Orgeron?
If he is so valuable, why are we losing?
Betcha the new staff sends him packing

Surprised GirthBrooks hasn't been in yet to let everyone know Coach Chris is the best analyst known to man.

You have no idea of the data junkie that Saban is. Weather reports go into his prep, temperature, etc. Not just if it is going to rain. Tendencies on offensive line play. How a rb runs. Flexibility in ankles. It is overkill but he looks for little things

It’s like asking if cars are overrated. If you give a car to an orangutang then yes, it’s overrated. A great manager, like Saban, will use those analysts to refine game plans to take advantage of opponents’ weaknesses and to self-scout to eliminate his team’s weaknesses.

A coach like Orgeron will use analysts as drinking buddies, just as the ape will use the BMW as a trampoline.

This shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the analyst role. They don't replace coaching. They don't drive strategy.

If the coaches don't know how to use the information, it's worthless. If you don't have a scheme and/or have no ability to change your approach gam to game, they are worthless.

Russ callaway came in 2020. Are you saying callaway should've been the oc?

I think if Callaway had been promoted nstead of hiring that dipshite with no experience, then we would not be in this f’ed up situation. We would be the top 10.

I think there's a lot of overthinking in college football. Now sure, the more people analyzing film increases the chances of finding something useful, but I think the vast majority of the useful info is quickly found.

But if we can afford it, there's no downside in having a bunch of analysts doing their thing.

I don’t think they are. But you might overate them if you don’t know what they actually do

Yes, with all the analysts Orgeron employed, none of these guys could see the defense was too vanilla and not aggressive enough.
