re: Are all these OL being processed, or are they just chasing money?

Most likely they recognize they’re getting a pay cut but think they can get more going elsewhere than what Lane will give them after their 2025 campaign
In short, to answer your question — yes.

You've got to wonder how much of this was talent vs development/coaching. We had 4 NFL guys on that 2024 OL, and we still couldn't run the ball.

Chasing money. Kiffin even mentioned that the new trend is to enter the portal just to get leverage on your current school and that guys are doing it with no intention of leaving. They all have agents now.

Curne is looking at the market. I think some others have been told to look around.

I think the biggest clouds over college football are NIL and the transfer portal. The idea that a teenager can negotiate a payout of the sums being mentioned (though we don't know the price tag for OL's) causes them to look for that payday opportunity. Of course, there are some that likely are not athletically capable of playing at the higher level and decide to move on rather than not playing, but even that equates to money: No play, no pay. So, each guy who enters the portal does so for their own reason.

Younger guys for sure I believe are testing the waters. I would think for sure we'd take Curne, maybe Echols back in a heartbeat if the $ made sense. I'm surprised Weston hasnt hit the portal yet considering how bad he was this season I cant imagine we offered him much to stay.
I'd be surprised if they just didnt went to 3rd year guys in Mubenga and Chester and flat out told them they arent worth even paying to stay and if you want play hit the portal because it wont be here any more. They were just truly awful and lack the ability this late in their career at this point.

There is no way imo Cune, Tyree, or even Echols were told to leave. Especially Cune he’s got more potential than any lineman we have & just turned 19yrs old.
I agree and I highly doubt you are getting rid of players before knowing who their replacements will be.

Curne is NOT a tackle!

Being told you are going to have to take a paycut and that you should hit the road are two different things IMO. Alot of the guys were highly ranked coming out of highschool so they probably have an inflated NIL deal.

There is also the probability that some people were being paid more than they are worth by the old staff and the new staff doesn't want to pay them as much so they are leaving to test their value.

I suspect that LK is telling them exactly what they’re worth as stated before. But, I also bet that LK is evaluating them on talent and upside (if it’s there) if they have the proper coaching. I’m sure he wants to keep those OL that can improve in the right system.

New staff, new expectations. Some are protesting changes, I think, and some are hedging their NIL bets by opening up their availability.
It’s the area in which the greatest change must take place. It’ll get sorted, one way or another. Maybe we have to piece together an O-line for 2026. I don’t think that would be worse than what we saw the last couple of years. But it could be.

That is not made up at all and what they've been reporting on the premium boards. They have had sit downs with every player and let them know what they're worth and if they think they'll play here or not. They dont care what past coaching staffs promised them NIL wise, it's irrelevant now. These are year to year deals for the most part anyways.
If someone like Curne made $500k this year and wants $750k next year and we are telling him we wont pay you more than $500k because $750k can buy us a proven good portal starter, this is why a guy like that is testing the market. There are other players being told they are absolutely offering less than they made this year.

I don't have a clue what they are thinking, or what the new staff has told them about their future here....
However, I feel most of them have far more talent and worth than has been pulled out of them thus far. I'm not saying they will suddenly be superstars, but I think coaching and blocking scheme/offensive plan have made them look worse than they are.
the entire line has looked incredibly soft for years now... INCLUDING WILL CAMPBELL..... is each man really that soft, or was it just coaching.... I think coaching is the biggest part of it.

The staff and position coach that signed them are no longer at LSU. Plus, simply entering in the portal doesn't necessarily mean they can't remain at LSU. It's essentially telling other schools they are willing to listen to offers. Unless the new staff has come to them and said "you are out starting (OL position) next year", why not test free agency and explore your options? Ultimately, LSU may be the best option. But it's not a big deal to at least consider others.

And you know this how?
Posted on 12/29/25 at 10:48 am to Slippy
We turned over the head coach, offensive staff, and front office so it would make sense that the new staff may have different valuations of certain players and positions than the previous staff did. This will probably lead to players entering the portal that are head scratchers.
I did see that Harlem Berry and/or his allegedly met with Glasscock yesterday, probably going over what LSU will offer to keep him.
