My only issue with his defenses is that they were soft. Other than a few standout players, his lack of intensity I feel like caused a lot of tackling issues.

they struggled a little in 2019 being on the field all the time and damn injuries but after the Ole Miss game they were the best damn defense in the county giving up like 6-8 points a game when starters were playing and before blow out, when it mattered

The best thing is that his defenses always got better in every game with each series, and better as the season progressed, (you better score in first half) which are hallmarks of a great coach

He did have a state of the art full size wall video screen installed to simulate offensive schemes that defenses would see.

I like how he thinks.

2016 was definitely an elite defense, maybe not quite those years but they were pretty close. Didn't give up more than 18 points in any of the 4 losses that year and shut down Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson in the bowl game.

After the Ole Miss game they gave up 12.3 points to finish the regular season and the SEC Championship Game.

The last five games of the season, including the Semi-Final against Oklahoma and the Championship against Clemson the defense gave up 18 points a game. Very elite 5 game stretch. Should have been less but Georgia got a bullshite touchdown at the end, and Arkansas scored two bullshite touchdowns when they benched KJ Jefferson.

But still giving up 18 points per game to end the season is very good, a big part of why we were so dominant at the end of the year.

Not sure why you got downvoted. The 2003 and 2011 defenses should be what we strive for each year.

Recall that in our great 2019 season, our offense was outta' sight and the defense was just average....

Only as a DC not a head coach.

Strange how things change. When Dave left LSU this board was so excited. Now people want him back as HC and are praising him.

Just interesting look at this board no comment on Aranda implied.

Was it? I'm sure the usual O humpers were, but I don't recall people being excited that he was leaving. I think most were just basking in the post-championship glow.

Agree, but keep in mind CFB offense has changed since then and those defenses were very well rested.

they gave up too many 3 and longs in 2019. It was reminding me of Chavis' defenses at times.

That's pretty much college football at this point.

Dont forget to factor in Les Miles' terrible offenses and how it would leave the defense to bail us out so many times.

That was a great defense, not average. It was adequate across the front line - good, but not great. The back seven were as good as it gets in college football.

However, I don't remember being impressed.
Anybody who didn't understand the greatest of Aranda at DC really doesn't understand the modern age of football.
