re: Aranda was given 2.5 million to hold the team together and keep it from falling apart

And that would do what?
It would change nothing. They would not all of a sudden be happy with the result.

Are you and BB03 still obsessing over 11.18.11?

bullshite. This is O’s program. Other than a short term PR hit, O would have been fine. We probably get someone like Elko or better.
What’s the purpose of this false narrative.? WTF is wrong with you?

How about issues like:
- "Who gives a shite" after halftime in a 31-7 game against a 4-6 team and they proceed to put up 30 on us in the 2nd half and over 400 rush yards. Again, thank god for the offense to the rescue when the defense falls fla ton it's face and entire half
- "Who gives a shite" after we go up 46-34 on a team we haven't beaten in 8 years with 1.5 minutes left in the game and what do we do, play prevent/zone? Nope, man up bump and run on outside with little safety support and give up a 1 play 85 yard TD immediately on the ensuing drive taking a whopping 10-15 second off the clock and allow them right back in it with an onside opportunity.
Just a couple recent examples.
Again, OP isnt entirely wrong here, this defense is no better than the one we chastised to no ends in 2015 with Kevin Steele. The offense is just masking it all from most criticism. This isn't to say we should fire Aranda tomorrow, but he's earned a ton of criticism this season, that's for sure. This has been piss poor unacceptable defense this season.
Were any of those wins in question? Did any team have the ball with a chance to take the lead?
NO
stop bitching and enjoy the greatest season you've ever seen!

If the offense wasn't so drastically improved, Aranda's defense would have this team at 7-4 right now.
No reason to pay top dollar for that.
Without Joe Brady this season is 2008 and Orgeron gets fired.
The golden goose Aranda given 2.5 million to save the team would be the one who got Orgeron fired.

How do you know the defense wouldn't be worse without Aranda?

The wins weren't in question because of the offense. That's kind of the point.
Again, just because we're winning doesnt mean we're flawless as a team. Of course the offense is great, that doesn't remove criticism from the defense. That's kind of stupid? Want to know why tOSU jumped us? Because they are a complete team and have showed that so far and haven't wavered much from that. Our defense has more than a couple occasions looked plain bad by comparison.
The same people who think no criticism is allowed because undefeated are the same people who will rail on the defense if we lose a game 52-49.

That's making the assumption that the defensive woes have nothing to do with Brady and the offense's success!
Perhaps without Brady the defense plays more like the old D because the O is more like the old O. There is no way to tell now but I don't care if he makes $10 million a year and gives up 50 every game as long as we score 51 every game!

The personnel is too good to be this average. But they’re still making the key plays in crucial situations to win games. Still excellent in short yardage. Still solid in the back end and outside. Our play up front and lack of pass rush has hurt us. Our LBs are either overthinking or trying to do too much. We miss Devin White in the middle big time.

If you think the D is this much worse simply because we are scoring more points it's a hopeless conversation for you. Clearly havent been paying attention this season

everyone needs to chill about the D. Ole Miss and Vandy were both bad but imagine being a player in those games when your up 20 points - probably hard to stay juiced the whole time.
a couple of near meaningless/fluke plays at the end of games also makes our D look worse than they really are
the D makes enough stops per game so that our O can light it up

Now he’s taking that 2.5 million, putting a poor product on the field, making LSU drop in the polls, and giving LSU a harder road to the national championship.
LSU could find someone for 500k to produce that result.
Aranda will not be fired, but I would like to see someone come take Aranda (Texas and his good friend, Tom Herman, maybe?). When I say this, I get asked "Who would replace him?", as if Aranda is a unicorn who invented nuclear energy. And my answer is that for $1.5 million, you could get plenty of quality coordinators who would probably produce better results.

Who? Who is realistically coming? People keep saying this but not actually saying who we would realistically end up with that is more proven and produces better results than Aranda (especially against top level competition).

Candidates who could put a shitty defense on the field for way less money. I think you can figure that out.
The problem with this stupid logic is you see it as a zero sum, good d vs bad d. We do not, contrary to your view have the literal worst defense. So while overall the D may not rank very high and has some major lapses in the some spots, it’s also been very good in spots. Holding Texas to 7 in the first half, Bama to 13, Florida 7 in the 2nd half. With just any yahoo at DC we may not have even had those good halves and may have dropped a game or 2. But you keep beating the drum maybe one day O will wake up and fire him
