I'm not sold on A&M as a true contender. They had a much better year than us last year, but I don't think there is much separation between LSU & A&M. If the AP wants to reward them for last year, I am ok with that. Means piss all once this year gets rolling.

They squeaked out a win at home against Florida last year due to a fumble while Florida was driving for the winning FG.

Outside of that win, there were no impressive wins on their resume. Never had to play Ole Miss, got LSU and Auburn late in the year when the bags were packed (neither were impressive victories given the years those 2 programs were having) and still got throttled by Bama in embarrassing fashion like every year.

They have to replace their QB and 4 of 5 starters on their o-line.

A&M has improved since Jimbo took over, but I have to see it to believe it.

There's little doubt that top 5 will have probably 2 loss or less season but anyone in that 6-10 range could be also a 2 loss team or finished unranked as well.

Agreed. As for A&M, they finished 9-1 last season with blowout win over #10 in these rankings. Do I have confidence they can repeat such success this year? No. But for purposes of PRESEASON rankings it is hard to make an OBJECTIVE case to rank any of the teams behind them higher than 7.

I agree with you and think it should be more of a ‘power ranking’, but the preseason pollsters are trying to be ‘right’ by the end of the year and basing ranking on schedule is obviously huge

It's very similar to our season in 2020. We were coming off the best season in history and everyone thought we were going to be a top 10 team again even w all the players we lost to NFL. I realize that 2020 had a lot of other factors to figure in but we were overrated - just like AtM should be in 2021. You prove it on the field. Pre-season rankings are just a starting point. We also get Florida at home and they are ranked ahead of us as well - and they are replacing QB's that are now in NFL. I would say Ala. is in the same boat but they seem to be legit every year. We have a GOLDEN opportunity to be top tier and possibly top team in SEC again in 2021. We'll see. Should be a fun season w quality SEC games every week. Geaux Tigers!

For anyone wondering why A&M is ranked so highly this year, just take a look at their joke of a schedule -

- Kent State
- at Colorado
- New Mexico
- Arkansas
- Mississippi State
- Alabama
- at Missouri
- South Carolina
- Auburn
- at Ole Miss
- Prarie View A&M
- at LSU

So they draw Missouri and South Carolina from the East, and their OOC schedule comprises Kent State, Colorado, New Mexico, and Prairie View A&M.

It's very likely they're going to be 10-1 headed into the LSU game.

We were 5-5 last year and VERY lucky to beat Ole Miss and Fla.
Our talent and A&M's are fairly comparable, but A &M had a much better record. Both teams return their defenses, have questions on offense.
Coaching. Everybody rates Jimbo above Orgeron and LSU has new OC and DC, with new systems, no continuity.

Glenn “gay-boy” Guillbeau’s poll is in this Twitter graphic. Teams ahead of LSU according to him: USC, Texas, Auburn, Florida, and Washington

Weird seeing Iowa St that high.

Same goes for #8 Cincinnati, #10 UNC, Indiana, Cajuns and Chanticleers. not to mention A&M

Gotta say I’d love seeing the Cajuns beat the Longhorns on same channel as LSU right before our game kicks off. That’d make for a better tailgate

This better be a year that we finish better than we started. If not we are a 3 loss team at best

Fallen? Laughable. It's a fkn poll. You fall when you actually do it on the field. Pretty good ranking considering last year. Wasn't LSU in the teens in 2019? You are either trolling, stupid, or both.

Lol...they aren't beating Texas. All these teams are ranked highly because they play garbage schedules. ULL would beat vandy in the SEC...some years..not sure who else.

They can beat the immediate ten ahead of them and would likely be favored over most.
