re: Anyone take a guess how many home runs have been hit in CWS?

Through 9 games in TDA, one (1) HR - to reply to OP. That HR ball was absolutely crushed last night by the star Texas SS (I will attempt to spell his name - Hinojosa - whatever, the guy is a super star freshman) to short/medium left field - cleared fence by 30 - 50 feet, IMO.
No homers yet to RF line, power alleys (LF or RF) or dead center. Really?
Note where any outfield plays. Watch any game. Outfielders position themselves between 100 feet and 150 feet from the warning track ~ the wall. You serious, Clark?
Final score 1-0. Seriously? Pitchers that good? Nah. It's not pitchers or the "raised seams" of the baseball. Announcer Kyle was a tremendous pitcher. When a former star pitcher announcer starts to "side" with the batters, you know there's a big problem.
While the "toothpick" bats contribute to the lack of HR and other extra base hits problem, the real problem here is TDA (its orientation to prevailing winds and its overall design). I heard announcers say design and construction happened before "toothpick BB core bat change". Wow. SNAFU. IMO.
Note that all of these 8 CWS participants had absolutely no problem at all to hit homers in their regionals and super regionals. I saw as many of these games as were offered by the ESPN channels. I know what I saw.
Those baseball games were very entertaining. Pitching and hitting were balanced (hitting between 1/4 and 1/3 times at bat vs. good pitching). Many more extra base hits. Many more homers.
What changed? TDA, IMO. Now, TDA needs to change. Move the fences in. Now. TDA, NCAA, TDA/NCAA or others (mox nix to me) you determine how much. 15 feet? More? Don't wait for ? years' results of "non-raised seams baseballs". Kinda what I heard the NCAA BB Championship representative allude to. Do it now. Now...
CWS not enjoyable anymore.
I have played on fields like this. Except they had no warning tracks or walls. They were 600 feet cow pastures where the batter faced the prevailing 10 - 15 MPH winds routinely.
This is not baseball... May as well not have a warning track or a wall. Not to mention the constant wind blowing in at who knows (15 - 25 MPH). Witness the streaming flags. Of the 9 games (I watched them all), there was one game (forgot which one at this point) that the flags were somewhat limp and maybe blowing sideways only a little bit toward left field. Other than that, this TDA park is "where hard hit line drive long fly balls come to die". IMO.
I would love to be as proud of the TDA CWS as the former Rosenblatt CWS. TDA, NCAA, whoever's responsible and can change this - please help me.
Total fan...

so over 21 seasons or so we have only 1 game through 5 where both teams don't score. This CWS alone we have 2

The sad thing is, if you listened closely, the NCAA rep said that they would study the effect of the new ball for one OR two seasons before considering any significant changes. So at the pace the NCAA usually moves, it's safe to say it will take longer rather than sooner. And Skip has said several times that it's his opinion that the new ball will have a " MEH "effect on the game. And CPM has echoed that as well.Skip added that any positive changes the offense will enjoy will be negated by the advantages the pitchers will get with the new ball. CPM said that he has plans on his desk right now to bring in the fences at The Box & is only waiting to see how things work out. Skip's final words were: "bring in the fences at Omaha."

And here's where you lost it. The new ball will have less drag which means less movement. The pitchers will have zero advantage with the new ball vs the current ball.

I am in no way an expert, but I have heard people say curveballs and sliders will have less movement, but two seam fastballs will have more movement because they will rotate faster.
I think this is what they are talking about.
We will find out, I guess.

there's no penalty for pitchers lobbing fastballs belt high over the plate. that's just a fly ball now.
UCLA's entire pitching strategy last year.

Yep just talked about it during TCU game
Pitchers aren't scared anymore and they do whatever they want
It's the bats combined with lack of steroids

When you say the pitchers will have zero advantage, then you are saying you know better than Skip Bertman, one of the greatest pitching coaches in the country? You know more than CPM who has been coaching for a living for decades? Oh, wait, let's ask an actual pitcher: Ben McDonald has been quoted as agreeing with Skip, too.
