You could hear him CLEARLY during the Tiger basketball radio broadcast circa late 70's.

He was a student living in North Stadium in 61-62 when I was there. He got unbearable the week of the Ole Miss game. When he wasn't in his room yelling "Here we go Tigers" he made a tape recording of himself and played it out the window. Other residents got fed up with this, broke into his room, got the tape and unwound it in the hallway from east to west stadium. Then at night, he would ride around the stadium yelling his famous yell. Fellow students put a end to this by taking his bike and putting it up in the pipes of the fifth floor shower room. Those were the days.
Thanks for sharing.

That sounds annoying.
He would do it during timeouts, or some pause in play. I didn't find it annoying at all. I know he was from New Orleans, and worked for Times Picayune Newspaper. At the basketball games he would go into the entrance way to his portal so his voice would carry better. This topic has been brought up on TD numerous times.

For a period of years, for big games, he would stand outside the players' gate, usually for the Wed. practice, and let loose for a good hr. Players loved him.

You do realize that I'm not talking about "Big Red", correct?

Oh yeah.... He was the loudest fan in the history of Tiger Stadium! I would be in one endzone and hear him coming from the other endzone. I remember the name also. Early 70s.

When I was 13, I worked for the same newspaper distributor as he did. A man named Leonard Toluso. Red delivered a large route in a car. Both,Morning Advocate and the evening paper, the State Times. I had an evening route on a bycycle. Red was a very nice and genuine man. But, pretty simpleminded. LSU sports was his only passion. No family in this area. Was from Mississippi.

Sat in the lower south endzone in the mid sixties with my Dad, and I remember that voice well! Used to try to find him in the north endzone with my binoculars as he would yell!

Was he the guy at basketball games who yelled “Referee ain’t got no sense! Referee ain’t got no sense!”?

My dad told me about this guy, but he encountered him at basketball games.
Mid '70s, right when the Assembly Center opened.

Heard him as a kid in the late '70s in the Assembly Center. We had season tickets, and you could hear him from the other side of the arena when he got going.

Wasn't his chant kinda of monotone and consistent? I remember hearing him at a lot of football games in the late 70's and 80's. Tiger Bait , Tiger Bait , Tiger Bait , Tiger Bait , over & over, no high or low pitches just one tone??

Is he still alive? If he was a student in the early 1960's he would be in his 80's.

RIP. I was afraid of that. He was a fixture back in the day but it has been a long time.
