I was actually agreeing with you and just pointing out that we didn't throw Gausman in game 1 last year.

I know. Just furthering the point. Way too many people are obsessed with a series played last year that we can't change the outcome of. But I hate coaching scared.

I may not know as much as most here about baseball. I feel like when the other team sees the best in the first game it makes it easier going against the lesser pitchers. I would think the best pitcher to be used in the second game.

Like the other poster said I trust in Mainieri

Why did Gausman pitch game 2 last year?

Nola has not been the game 1 stater for about 5 weeks now.

My bet is Nola goes Game 2.

I agree, but at the same time didn't we go with Ranaudo THEN Coleman in 09 and we saved our best for game 2 in 08 also under Mainieri.

I just hope he goes with Glenn and not Eades in game 1 if he doesn't go Nola.

I think we may tee off on Gray.

I've been watching his clips and reading about him. He throws a lot of heat in the strike zone. Breg and Katz can easily get around on high heat in the strike zone.

It's not just the velocity. Dude has a lot of movement on his heat.

I didn't see that. I saw a lot of in the zone fast balls that blew by the Big 12 hitters. His slider is phenomenal though. I just hope he doesn't bring great movement with that heater, cause that is some serious steam coming out of his hand. He hit 100+ in 8th/9th in several games this year according to one OU blog I just read.

OU doesnt swing the bats very well. So id argue that they may struggle to hit nola more than we will gray.

I agree.

We win 2-1. (score of game 1, not the series results)

I absolutely loved our 3 pitchers last night, I'm definitely not saying we should go this route, but I think we held a better offensive team than Oklahoma to 3 hits and 1 run last night. Very impressive job of pitching by all three.

I guess my point is, we have nice depth, and pitching by committee to a team that hasn't played us this year doesn't give them much of a chance to lock in on 1 guy, after seeing him only once or twice.

That being said I believe Nola is the obvious choice in game 1 imo.

Eades game 1
Nola game 2
Glenn game 3 if nec.

But we have McCune, Newman, Bonvillain, Rumbelow,
and a great closer also.

we're f&^%ing LSU, people.

We set our rotation and let whoever the hell we're playing adjust accordingly. Not the other way around.

Nola starts game one. Its the same philosophy as every SEC weekend that begins on a Friday. Throw your ace the first night.

Supers.

In the CWS, winning game 1 is exponentially more important IMO.

LSU is the favorite to win this series. Dont let Oklahoma's one great player make us decide how we are going to do things this weekend.

Start Nola game1, end of conversation.

I'm saying he can't hit an elite breaking ball. he's an automatic out against top competition at times.

Well duh, even great hitters can't hit elite breaking balls. That's why great pitching beats great hitting.

And Jones is not an automatic out against top competition.

Numbers wise, yes. From a pure stuff standpoint, not even close IMO. Gray has a chance to go top 3 in the draft. I think Nola goes high, but he doesn't go top 5 IMO based on stuff alone.

nola has a chance to be the first pitcher taken next year dude. Saying he want go in the top 5 right now makes no sense at all.
