re: Anyone else think we should start Eades/Glenn on Friday instead of Nola?

If we go with the fricking lineup where there's a stretch of Ross, Edward, Stevenson, Laird, and Jones in a row, then Gray might just get a CG shutout.
now this we can agree on. Having Laird and Stevenson back to back against a lefty last night was silly.
Maybe we'll be more effective against the righty.

Dumbest comment of the day on the Rant goes to you
Are you really gonna argue that Jacoby Jones doesn't struggle with curve balls? Holy frick.

Is that the part I quoted? Holy frick - reading comprehension.

Well, in the context I put that in, top competition has better off-speed and breaking stuff. Thus, against top pitchers Jacoby will struggle.

All hitters struggle against top pitchers when they have their stuff

Which is a stupid comment. Jacoby was in the top 25 players in the SEC in batting (in SEC only games). He hit .313 in the SEC and was in the top 10 in the league in RBIs against SEC only competition (and he only played in 27 of 30 games).

True. IF Gray is dumb enough to give him Fastballs, then Jacoby may tee off. Gray should throw nothing but curves and changeups to him.

I hate this idea for a few reasons.
ONE. Nola is just as good as Gray. Nola's been pitching against aces all year, and winning every time.
TWO. I hate conceding anything in a three game series. Maybe in a seven game series, but three? Way too short to "punt" a game. Why put yourself in that situation?
THREE. I hate the message it sends the team. "Oh, we're not good enough to beat this guy." Forget that. We can beat anyone. Bring it on. Don't make decisions based on fear.

All good points. It didn't really help us last year either.

Numbers wise, yes. From a pure stuff standpoint, not even close IMO.
Gray has a chance to go top 3 in the draft. I think Nola goes high, but he doesn't go top 5 IMO based on stuff alone.

Last year is last year. Stony Brook only has influence over this series if you let it. We picked a bad time last year to play like hot garbage. Don't do that again. But there is no tactical or strategic adjustments that need to be made for a series played last year with a different team.
This LSU team only lost one weekend series all year. No need to change the formula.
And while I do agree Gray is the better pro prosepct... so what? Most hitters are better prospects than Rhymes and Katz, but they are awesome college players. We're not developing prospects here, we are trying to win the CWS.

Nola is just as effective at getting college hitters out as Gray

if they are just as good numbers wise what else is there? you have a big sample size from the whole season....not to mention our competition was far greater than OU's

Hangriff is saying he thinks Eades gets Game 1.

mother of god....i dont really care either way, as long as eades is on a short leash

I was actually agreeing with you and just pointing out that we didn't throw Gausman in game 1 last year. This is a totally different team and matchup than last year.

NOOOOO. I want Glenn game 1 if it isn't Nola. Not fricking Eades.
Posted on 6/3/13 at 11:15 am to redfieldk717
Well his rationale for Eades on the short leash for Friday is the fear of having to play a 4th game. He says this weekend you dont have that.
