Anyone else think this team will be unleashed now that Miles is gone?

I rewatched part of the Auburn game, and our offense is just painful.

Les reduced this team to a one man circus: Fournette.

It's like he knew he had a great player, and he was just going to ride him. In the 1950s, this might have worked. This game is now QB centric.

LSU has played 10 on 11 for quite some time under Miles with the only decent offensive year from a passing standpoint being Mett's second year.

The team was absurdly unorganized offensively. Draining play clocks consistently.

I honestly can't tell if our o-line sucks because the play calling and organization was so horrible.

Etling threw essentially one pass in the first two series: a screen pass to Fournette.

I really don't think it will take much for Orgeron to get this job. We have at least two high level NFL starters right now defensively: Key and Adams. And Adams is all over the field. Best safety we've had in my opinion. Beckwith and Riley are playing really good football, and White is playing really well as well.

Les WOULD NOT THROW to open up the run. Guy was incompetent from an organizational standpoint.

This is, from top to bottom, our best team since 2011. It will play out that way in the NFL.

We threw the ball 27 times against Auburn and ran it 32 (11 of which were Etling keepers or sacks which get counted into the total)

We jsut sucked.

Not a refusal to throw. We threw very poorly.

A lot of it was the timing of the passing game, though. He would line up and try to out man an 8 man front. Then, we'd throw it when we were behind the chains.

Some people don't understand these things.

They look at the stat sheet and see a lot of passes and think it was great play calling

I'm cautiously optimistic but I'm afraid a lot of fans are setting themselves up for disappointment. I think we'll see improvement, but I'm not expecting an unstoppable juggernaut after one week.

check out the O-line. No push no protection. Cant get far with that no matter who's coach.

That's because opposing defensive coordinators have learned they can sell out and stack the box against our retarded-arse offense. Smart play calling will change this eventually. Call plays that will take advantage of an over aggressive defensive rush and burn their arse over and over until they back off. In other words take what the defense gives you. Miles apparently never understood this. It was almost like he scripted the offensive plays for the entire game ahead of time.

That offense set the OL up for failure as much as any other part of the team. By being so damn predictable LSU was allowing the opposing defenses to line up with 8 in the box. It is damn near impossible for 5 linemen and a TE to block 8 guys on an every down basis.

As far as pass blocking goes, once again by being so predictable on Offense LSU was throwing many downs in an obvious passing situation. This caused pressure from the defense and what amounts to an overload on an ongoing basis.

What LSU has to do is hit some TE passes and some slants or crossing routes which burn the defenses a few times. Then and only then will the defenses back off the line and slow down pressure on the QB. They will be forced to cover additional receivers and play a more conventional defense.

It all works together.

What has been so damn stupid about this situation is the fact that it is obvious what the problem has been and two guys (Miles & Cameron) who have to know better refused to do a damn thing about it. In addition, the offense was so predictable and they were dead set on playing a QB who had not played well EVER in his 2 years as a starter.

I do not understand this crap and never will.

Definitely agree with you here.

HOWEVER, if what our lineman said this week about watching film is true, I mean, this team had performed decently with zero film study and just the most antiquated approach in decades.

Maybe now they'll call plays based on weaknesses and the O line won't be running into a brick wall.

Could make a big difference.....at least I hope.

Unleashed is a bit much to ask for. I'll settle for some incremental improvement and a win against Mizzou.

He did not say it was great play calling or execution. He simply said it was not a refusal to throw. There is a difference.

I believe the offense will have more explosive plays but prone to mistakes and turnovers this first game while trying to adjust to a different type of game plan.
Defense will be a little better with fewer missed assignments and better tackling as Aranda's defense continues to be assimilated.
I expect special teams to be about the same although we could see a new punter and kickoff specialist at some point.
I believe CEO will be willing to burn redshirts to give this team a chance to improve quickly.

The one thing I want to see is an offense that snaps the ball with 10 secs left on the play clock. Under Miles it was painfull to watch so many plays start at 5 or less seconds.

I love a number in the win column, but a win without offensive stats is just not sustainable week in and week out.

Pocic and Malone maybe. Forgot which 2. But they had quotes from both of them after their 1st day of practice with O saying something along the lines how different or new it was to watch film.

Shocking actually.

For the sake of perspective, here's where ESPN says we currently rank in 5 basic categories, among the 128 FBS teams:

(With 4 games in the books)

Points For - 21.0 Rank 111th
Points Against - 16.8 Rank 21st
Passing Yards - 147.8 Rank 119th
Pass Completion % - 54.5. Rank 103rd
Rushing Yards - 191.8 Rank 54th

Plenty of room for improvement, and I know they will give it their all!

I see this issue as a problem due to injuries and suspensions. A solid OL needs time together to work cohesively. that can't be accomplished with a revolving door s we have seen. Chemistry has little chance without a consistent player group.

The problem has not been a refusal to throw, rather, as noted by the Wisconsin LB, they knew what the play would be. It is easy to defend when you know what is coming.
