Hands down better than any of them? I am not so sure about that.

Would I have liked him? Sure, but that's a bold statement in his case.

Are you sure about this? State your evidence.

ETA:

I'll help:

In 2 years combined he played in 21 games and had 66 tackles (46 solo), 1 TFL, 0.5 sacks, 1 INT, and 7 PD. And honestly, he didn't have a much better sophomore year than freshman year despite getting a good bit more PT. Splits, other than tackles, aren't much different.

He's physically talented, but he was not some star at A&M and has been out of the sport for an entire season. Probably shouldn't be melting down because he was heralded out of high school.

AJ Haulcy stats last 2 years at Houston:
24 games,172 tackles (116 solo), 1 TFL, 0 sacks, 5 INTs, 12 PDs

Jardin Gilbert 2 full years (didn't play much junior year and who I don't think is very good) stats:
24 games, 116 tackles (67 solo), 3 TFL, 0.5 sacks, 3 INTs, 7 PDs

Tamarcus Cooley just last year (NB maybe, but still wanted to include) stats:
13 games, 39 tackles (20 solo), 3 TFL, 1 sack, 3 INTs, and 6 PDs

Then we have Toviano who is back to his natural position and was pretty heralded himself.

According to your post history, you were melting because we didn’t start fast in the spring portal.

So you actually would want Matthews over Haulcy? Emphasizing a one off freshman season over continued growth?

Some of these people just can't get the HS star ratings out of their heads. Remember in 2019 when they were complaining that Emery wasn't starting over CEH? I do.

What Freshman All American team did he make? He didn’t play much as a freshman. And he never beat Gilbert out, only started when Gilbert was hurt.

While he was certainly disappointing last year, he was hurt most, if not all, of the season. Not sure how much that hurt his play, but hopefully he’s better this year. Probably won’t start, but he’ll definitely play.

If I recall correctly he wanted to go to LSU but his parents wanted the bigger bag.Parents pimped their child to A@M.

Who are your starting safeties ? & what have you seen them do in the sec ? Just trying to talk ball not arguing. We are talking about a guy who was a freshman all American in the SEC! We seen Jacoby in action in the sec

It’s all good, man.
It sucks seeing a talented kid from La go elsewhere. That being said, I don’t think Matthews is a “can’t miss” guy. He hasn’t played since 2023.
I don’t think you can make an argument that he’s better than Haulcy and Cooley. Spears has potential and has SEC experience.
You should be more upset at losing Blaine Bradford to Ohio State.

Sounded like he wanted to be here when he entered the portal but LSU didn’t contact him

This here is the truth. He has always wanted to be at LSU even out of high school. Family pushed him to A&M for more money. He was set to sign with LSU on the morning of signing day, A&M upped their bid. He wanted to come to LSU when he left Aggie. LSU didn't show much of any interest, why that is? Your guess is as good as mine. I have asked ppl that I know that are connected to the Ponchatoula program and no one really knew what was going on with him.

IIRC, the rumors on here were that he was ready to sign with us until A&M upped their offer last minute and BK decided not to counter.
He and his family were playing the game - there’s nothing wrong with that and so many kids are doing that now.
It doesn’t mean we have to take him when he hits the portal.

I won't ever stress any kid who chose to go somewhere else. Good luck to him. If he plays us, he's tiger bait like his teammates.

There is no such thing, lol. Was he All-SEC or All-American or both? So he was straight up an All-American and All-SEC his freshman year? He wasn’t even a Freshman All-American. That’s impressive.

He owes LSU nothing and LSU owes him nothing. Time to move on. He isn’t our concern or problem. He had his chance to be a Tiger.
