All seniors (2) and juniors (3) on their OL, and guess what, only one expected to be drafted is the senior LT in the mid-late rounds. Juniors should all be coming back.

Sure wish we could see something like that.

Agree but Clemson's OL didn't need creative play calling to block Bama as the poster was saying. The Oline just played really well. Give them credit.

They needed creativity to get WRs open

How often did Lawrence spend more than a few second in the pocket? He was getting the ball out fast. Going fast and Alabama looked confused as frick.

Ahhh, which one? We had 'bout 6 or more during season!

Lol what? A straight go route is creative? Clemson WRs were destroying Bama corners. Bama didn't like the matchup with Clemson WRs at all which is why you saw Bama play some cover 2 and palms coverage.

This confirms what I thought earlier in the season that Bama was doing it with smoke and mirrors with Smith, Surtain, and Thompson back there. They are not that bad but they are not all world like it was looking. Once they actually had to play some pass coverage they came back to the pack quickly...

There are no creative routes. Just creative plays and schemes.

If you didn’t see the confusion in Bama’s Back 8 you were watching the game.

They were doing things pre snap and in their plays that kept the defense on their heals.

They ran go routes against press man with safety help over the top and still scored.

Creative play calling

Yes, it was "Creative"!

The first long TD the Bama safety jumped a short crosser leaving the WR wide open down the seam.

See, a combo route, attacking the middle of the field. Something LSU's passing game has lacked for years! Is it really "creative", no, but good OCs use combo routes to attack the D and force the safety to make a decision.

I didn't see confusion because they weren't confused as much as they were getting beat. The only thing they were doing pre snap was motioning somebody so Lawrence could see if they were in man or zone. Lawrence then did a great job knowing where to go with the ball. Clemson WRs just beat the Bama corners. It wasn't some X and O chess match where Bama was lost. It was simple as Clemson WRs making plays and Lawrence making great throws. Outside of the big Thompson mistake jumping the short crosser early there wasn't many "blown assignments".

"Little to no threat" is misleading. Lawrence did an incredible job of managing the pocket.

which gets back to my point on OL perfromance. LSU did not have the time for some of these plays to develop. And I am talking about against routine level SEC teams... We could be soooooo much better with sound pass protection

All OC's use combo routes. It's not rocket science lol. It's what you have to do against zone coverage.

They also held constantly, but SEC refs were watching the game like you and me and that shite didn’t get called, lol.

Seriously? It’s only been the number one or two topic in this board for the last 9 hours. Yes seniority and continuity really helps. Do you know what also helps? Having a scheme that keeps the defense guessing and allows you to play to your strengths

So correct.
- Scheme makes talent look good
- talent makes scheme look good

Some kind of crazy symbiotic relationship that I learnt in 6th grade.

Clemson also debunked the myth that you have to run the ball well against Bama before you can pass it... They had 135 total rushing and over half of that came on the last drive.

Except there were plenty of blown assignments. Bama was very confused, and I just don’t know what you were watching.

Clemson's 2017 and 2018 teams had the same HC, OC, and scheme. Bama's 2017 and 2018 teams had the same HC, DC, and scheme. And yet:

2017 Clemson offense vs. Bama
6 points
188 total yards
sacked 5 times
intercepted 2 times

2018 Clemson offense vs. Bama
37 points
482 total yards
sacked 0 times
intercepted 0 times

So, what changed?

Personnel matters a ton, and in Clemson's case their offensive personnel was much better in 2018 than 2017. I like Clemson's scheme, but their 2017 team was stifled by Bama because they lacked the personnel to execute it against them.
