I have to admit, I thought it was a bad hire. However, he is proving me wrong every day. And I couldn't be happier.

Yes there are. If you unfortunate enough to visit the tiger rant scoreboard on a gameday during the opponents offensive drives, you will see a large flock of them.

Then they vanish, only to be seen on the next opposing first down

By almost all objective standards at the time, it was a bad hire.
Right now, that bad hire looks to have turned out to be a very good one.

He was not the hire our fan base wanted. But he was the hire we needed. By the way I loved the hire from the beginning. And I was ridiculed from the beginning. Go Tigers.

Probably Damone and that rounds it out

But in all seriousness as far as purely looking at as a hire - was not good and that doesnt change, optics of a hire are only looking at how things were at the time, not in retrospect really. But it has turned out very good as a coach now.

Yes, definitely, although I don’t see them on here very often anymore. Unfortunately, I still wouldn’t be surprised to see this thread go a hundred pages.

I do. Who's to say any other hire would have performed differently?

With the talent LSU has, any coach may objectively had the same success or better. And may not have had to go through multiple coordinators to get there.

El Dago, I note you have been a member since Aug. 2019 and have 26 posts.
So the posts you made in support of the hire and the ridicule you suffered were elsewhere?

I'm skeptical for now. I'm enjoying the ride currently and overall I have silenced my criticism, but I'm still not a true believer. Still a lot of football left in the season, but beating Florida answered a lot of outstanding questions I did have.

7 wins against top 10 teams since 2016 with O at the helm. Only 2 coaches with more are Saban and Meyer with 9 each. Pretty impressive company

Before he was hired I said I wouldn’t mind him Herman or Jimbo if O kept his promises. After the Canada experiment and Troy I was all the way out. Didn’t think they should have fired him but said if he regressed in year 2 then fire him. After Auburn last year I said he earned at least another year. After Georgia I said I was in. After the Bama game I said he needed to do something to modernize the offense. He’s done that.

In all honesty O just can’t let Bama start building a big streak on him. He needs to win that game in the next few years. Need to be competitive and beat them at some point. He continues recruiting like this and hiring like this then a Natty will follow

The way it was handled was terrible no doubt. But the bargain we got is unbelievable. I dont think id take Herman or Fisher over Orgeron AT LSU now. Other schools most definitely. I hated the hire, love it now. But also cant ignore the fact O screwed the pooch a bit in his first year

This...still come back in 5 years and the answer might be totally different.

For me the Joe Brady hire is the best hire he has ever made and he gets all the credit for that. Anyone else probably could have hired him, but no on did. Now the to o-coordinator hires before that......this makes up for that in spades. And I know SE is still officially OC....but we know.

It was a bad hire that is working out way better than anyone thought it would.

I still think the way he was hired was a bad reflection in Alleva.

And I was as skeptical as anyone about his ability to lead this team. The Matt Canada fiasco and losing to Troy did not make me more confident in him.

But he’s made the changes we needed and this looks like a special team. He deserves all the credit for that and has proven critics like me wrong.

He’s the SEC and possibly national coach of the year right now.

It was a little crazy of people to be as down on Coach O as they were before even giving him a chance. But that's how people are unfortunately. Obviously, in hindsight, anyone would be foolish to say that it was a bad hire especially given his relatively low salary.

I am still not over the Troy loss. He can prove me wrong if he beats Alabama.
