You knew you were going to face elite running qbs like Milroe in your conference which should make you recruit for such situations. He's in year 3 which makes around 98% of these players his and not Coach O's.

People seem to want to compare the portal to NFL free agency. It's not even close. NFL free agency is littered with game changing players every offseason. The portal is littered with players who can't see the field with their current squads, NIL chasers or bitter, disgruntled players. All of the above have little to no film on them which makes evaluating them that more difficult. Even less are game changers. The majority of them are arse & just warm bodies.

Fair enough, but also obviously a different conversation that we are having.
but you’re not wrong.
I wont argue with anyone who blames Kelly because we’re 3 years in and the buck stops at Kelly. We should have better players.
But I do think he saw the issue and clearly made moves to make corrections.

It’s a large majority for sure, but 98% would be like 1.7 players left over on scholarship.

The majority of the bad players on defense are Coach O recruits & signees.

This! It has not been until this years class that we have the caliber of players we need. It was tough to watch recruiting on that side of the ball those two years. Lost out on a lot portal players too

D talent isn’t there. safeties and LBs are not SEC material. D tackles are young. Yes this is Kelly’s fault he corrected it by firing entire D staff last year and now we are paying for the mistakes of the first 2yrs and don’t have an elite QB to help cover for it Kelly gets year 4-5 to show what he can do
