Any smoke on what's happened to the MBB program behind the scenes?

mcmuhun is not the guy, but I'm hoping some journalist gives an in depth account of what has happened internally.
I will say I was fine with hiring him, given the media witch hunt on tPear and NCAA's history of hammering random mid-tier programs (See Ole Miss and Freeze).
tBlunder was giving muc this insane contract. Why the hell would you put the AD on the hoof for over 15 million if he turns out being a bust? Murray has a history of churning out winners and huge busts.
But we'd have at least made the NIT if something did't collapse internally. we took the loot from a decent 30-4 team. LSU beat a respectable Wake Forest team and should have beaten a good Kansas State team. We beat a talented dysfunctional Arkansas team but can't beat south carolina. the story goes beyond muc being a bust.
tldr: Pear's replacement is a bust, but the problem is beyond coaching. The SEC is loaded with athletic teams and mid-tier coaches. Muc's coaching is clearly a problem but we had the players to win 20 games.

It's hard to recruit to a school when you don't know if the NCAA is going to hand down sanctions.

He signed a top 20 class this past offseason
And most of these players are in it for the money and what you can do for them. Most your top players want to jump to the pros anyways. These “pending” and possibly no sanctions are not holding CMM back from doing his job right now

Sure. I will give him that pass. We were in the race for quite a few top recruits early in his tenure, but left at the alter for whatever reason.
tPost is about right now. How the frick are Mizzou and Mississippi State dancing with their situation, but LSU is SOL
it further confirms the sec is talented but loaded with average coaches, and the entire premise of hiring muc was his coaching ability
eta: but also saying we are, at worst, an NIT team on paper. there's more to the fall and just bored wondering if there is any smoke behind this bullshite. he makes trent johnson look like a dale carnegie prodigy.

Quality over quantity. He has had alot more ground to make up. I gave him this year, I knew it wasn't going to be pretty. I actually though I was gonna be wrong early in the season. He has taken on more than a 1 year rebuild. Hopefully we see some really good improvement next year if/when the talent he has is closer to the other teams in the league.

I'm beginning to wonder about the medical history behind some posters on this board. This is way too hard of a melt.

Have you seen our recruiting? And I’d like to be wrong but if this year is any indication then we’re not gonna get good players in the portal either. The 8th man off the bench from a Mississippi state team that was worse than us last year starts for us now

Yes I have. Do you think they’re very good? I personally do not.

Yeah, it's such a melt to wonder why LSU inherited a 30-4 team and top 40 class but can't make the NIT
if anything I am confirming I actually liked the mcmahon hire but lost as to why our university is historically bad.

The big money basketball people don’t like him

The Dale camp wanted wade gone so they leak shite and have cal helping Forde making fat Scott cry so we fire a much better wade. Problem is the Dale camp isn’t strong enough or good enough to get a good coach and fat Scott hired the exact opposite of Wade in every last way. Wade was passionate, McLoser is a zombie.
MM has no chance to recruit because 1. He inspires no confidence in our money people 2. His fundamentals are boring and no top player wants to be involved in it.
Also looking at what Ja has done the last few months have to be concerned he is going to be a winless lifeless version of Nate Oats culture disaster.

Picked 8th preseason
Finished dead last
Wonder why folks are complaining

Have you not seen how inept our guards are. We essentially give the other team the ball on 1/4 possessions and they can’t shoot. No coach could win with this team. We have 2 good looking freshmen and 1 project.
If we don’t improve the roster considerably next year will be worse as our one consistent bright spot leaves. Ace is a serviceable 2 but his consistency and shot selection has to improve.
I am not sure MM is the answer at all but conjuring up some sort of internal conflict is ludicrous.

I don't think there is anything "behind the scenes". I think it is as simple as a guy who was unprepared for the significant jump in talent/athleticism from the mid-major level to the major-conf. level. In the OVC he generally had one of the more talented teams. So his approach was generally successful. At LSU (despite what all of the revisionist poster on here want to cry) he has a mid-tier SEC talent. So simply expecting the approach that worked at Murray St to work in the SEC was naïve. His offense has been a mess from day one. From game 1 to game (whatever we are on now) there has been constant confusion amongst the players. Just about every offensive set starts with the PG up top and 4 guys spread along the baseline. Unfortunately, most of the time the guys are not quite sure what they are supposed to be doing. Who is supposed to be setting a screen. Where is the guy not setting the screen supposed to go. That uncertainty has far too often led to guys being hesitant in their movements and multiple people ending up in the same area, thus creating no space. On defense there hasn't really been much of an identity and he has been hesitant all season to really try a different approach (outside of occasionally going to a zone for a few possessions). He's been terrified to try to push the tempo. Even against teams where doing so could have been effective. Just a lot of uncertainty from the bench...so they have stuck what they are comfortable coaching. Even though it really hasn't worked.
It has been a HC who has never played or coached at the major conf. level in any capacity (outside of 2 years as a GA at Tennessee under a terrible HC 20 years ago) getting an unfortunately rude awakening to the huge difference between the OVC and SEC.
