you dont think its a big deal for a HS pitcher to throw 150+ pitches. I'll go ahead and disagree with that.

i've done it... it will either make or break him.. my arm felt twice as strong the next time i took the hill.. it just needs proper medical attention (ice) after throwing

How did you come by this information? There were no guns recording Walter Johnson or any other pitcher of his era.

It was in an article I read probably 15 years ago, but today I pulled it from Wikipedia because I couldn't rememeber the exact number, I thought it was closer to 97 mph he was throwing.

Apparently people were very interested in how hard he was throwing:
quote:

Although a lack of precision instruments prevented accurate measurement of his fastball, in 1917, a Bridgeport, Connecticut munitions laboratory recorded Johnson's fastball at 134 feet per second, which is equal to 91.36 miles per hour (147.03 km/h), a velocity which was virtually unique in Johnson's day

Pretty interesting.

Either way, I've got to get back to work. Sorry for calling you an idiot, I actually enjoyed the baseball talk. And didn't realize you weren't a man.

Same. I love the history of the game.

Interesting. As much from a scientific perspective as from a sports related one.

LMAO! You just self identified as a moron and a baseball illiterate.

The greatest hitters of the 60's, Mantle, Mays, Aaron, etc. etc. etc. would have laughed in the face of anyone making such a stupid comment.

Koufax held the all-time season strikeout mark, 383 Ks, until Nolan Ryan broke it.

"Not known as a power pitcher" BWWAAAHAHAHA

The Jesuit kid retired 21 straight batters.

There are only 7 innings in high school baseball.

So he essentially threw a perfect game in the middle of that game.

Impressive

From the 2002 LSU baseball media guide:

HIGH SCHOOL Lettered four seasons at Brother Martin High in New Orleans, where he was a teammate of current LSU infielder Blair Barbier . . . led the Crusaders to the 1996 Class 5A state championship, where he pitched 17 innings of scoreless baseball in less than 30 hours . . . was named MVP of the 5A state tournament for his efforts . . .

My 2 cents. Way too many pitches. It may not hurt now, or any time soon, but one day out of the blue....the elbow hurts a bit or the shoulder hurts a bit. When that happens a slight difference to limit the discomfort causes the damage to the elbow or shoulder to worsen. Surgery or rehab is usually the results.
