Once again, why would a statement be made on a basketball coach who is under contract for the next few years?
Because the coach has just finished third season in four years where his team finished last or 2nd to last in the conference. It is not unusual to see a coaching change made after such results, so it is not uncommon on unfounded there would be public speculation as to his future as coach of the program. Oklahoma's AD indicated just two days ago their HC would be returning amidst such speculation. LSU carried Les off the field, with years remaining on his contract, followed 20 minutes later by the AD stating he would remain as HC. Hell, just last year reports came out before the season ended that McMahon would return as HC. To act like there isn't precedent for an AD, or reports quoting the AD, to make a comment as to the future of a coach in such a situation is ridiculous. In fact, it's LESS likely an AD would say nothing in such a situation.

Radio silence is being maintained until NC State gets knocked out of the tournament or wins the national championship, whichever comes first.

Again I think they are waiting until their list of potential candidates finish up March Madness.
There is no reason to wait to fire a coach if you have already decided to do so. Even if the candidates for the new hire are playing in the Tournament. Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Arizona St, Syracuse, etc have already announced they have fired their coaches. It's likely the next coach is someone coaching in the NCAA Tournament. Yet, that didn't stop them from making an announcement.
The only reason you say nothing is if (a) you are still unsure if you are keeping the coach or not (which seems ridiculous at this stage, but I guess, possible) or (b) you already have an agreement with a guy and part of that agreement is to not make any public statements to draw attention from the coach's current team.
The fact LSU has said nothing likely means what most have speculated for weeks, the only options on the table are hiring Wade or retaining McMahon. If LSU were considering other candidates they would have fired McMahon quickly after the season ended so they could get into the marketplace for a new HC that is ALREADY spinning. Waiting to make a decision only puts them at risk of having all of the top options picked over by the time LSU enters the marketplace. If LSU has chosen to retain McMahon LSU would have already made an announcement/comment voicing support of McMahon and ending speculation as to his future.
IMO, if NC State loses tonight I think you start to see some news fly pretty quickly. Perhaps as early as tomorrow. There has been a lot of talk about Wade's buyout dropping after 4/1. However, I don't think Wade wants to wait that long for anything to happen if he is planning to come to LSU. He'll want to get to work quickly on getting his staff together and start pushing the accelerator on trying to get in line to get transfers once the portal opens on 4/7. Transfer discussions are ALREADY happening across the nation behind the scenes. I don't think Wade, McMahon, LSU, or NC State want to sit in a state of speculation for another two weeks while their competitors are working behind the scenes to plan for next year. Conversely, if there is no interest between Wade and LSU, then I think you see some pretty definitive statements/actions to that effect pretty quickly because, again, no one involved wants to operate under a state of speculation.
LSU never said anything publicly about Kiffin. But at the season got close to the end with Ole Miss likely in the CFP, the behind the scenes talked started to leak out and Ole Miss, in essence, forced a decision because they needed to figure out how to plan for the immediate future (CFP) and long term future (new HC if Kiffin left). If nothing else, NC State is not going to want to operate under a cloud of speculation if they think they may have to get involved in a coaching search. They will want to know ASAP if they need to be looking for a new HC or not.

If yall want a will wade hire without a true coaching search, then this is the bed you made. You’ll just have to wait & see

I don’t think they will fire him unless they have someone great lined up.
And despite what some of you think, this is not an attractive job.
Maybe some of you will achieve ultimate orgasm and Wade comes back.
More likely we get another low mid major coach who is a big risk.

Because everyone knows how dog shite of a state the program is in right now. This is atypical. There is a legitimate apathy running through the veins of a PROFITABLE/revenue generating sport.
Ok... So what exactly would you want Verge to come out and say at this very moment?

At this point I assume he’s safe until next year.

Has you ever thought that maybe LSU doesn't know if McMahon will be the coach next year? Or do you think that's impossible?

I'm betting that we're making a play for Will Wade, but that the decision has been made that McMahon is being retained if we can't get Wade.
So Verge isn't saying shite until NC State's season is over and he knows for certain whether he can get Wade or not.

If he’s not good enough he should not be retained
But I think you are correct

I want Wade back and have been told that’s priority number one, but if we aren’t going to even consider other coaches then that is a little scary. You always need contingency plans. And if for some reason this admin decides to run it back with McMahon, we shouldn’t even commit more than 1 mil to NIL. Let McMahon really earn his stripes. Run a rec league team out there for all I care because we are finishing last in the SEC no matter what.

No I truly won’t care anymore. I won’t even know their record.
And that's the issue - ambivalence is much worse than criticism - cause when you criticize you still care.

This is what worries me the most. Surely the powers that be at LSU can't be this short side about the whole ordeal, but it appears its either Wade, or retain McMahon.

Very probable. They can probably get the buyout money lined up if we get Wade back. It would be almost impossible for them to get the money together if they just wanted to hire a random coach from a mid major team that hasn't won anything.
...now once the buyout is lower next year, even a random mid major coach would be easier to stomach.

Because the AD said the basketball program's expectations are to make the NCAAT and if that doesn't happen the program would be evaluated after the season.
Hell, McMahon acknowledged there would be a decision whether to keep him or not following the season.
